Default Shooting Star alternative?

Well I keep seeing and reading these reviews on Shooting Star and it seems to be the untouchable treasure of the forums. I was wondering what others think is a good obtainable alternative? Wanting to order something tonight or tomorrow so I can have it on my trip the weekend after next.

Desi Murli is a whole different animal and not as amazingly fantastacular, but it is amazing. Nothing can be as good as SS other than more SS.

Maybe try Ayam Zaman 1000 Nights. While it's not in the same ballpark as Shooting Star it's pretty tasty and spicy.

+1 to that actually! I totally forgot to mention that one! I set it up for a bunch of people one night and every one of them raved about it! Just FYI

Don't be confused by these fine gentlemen! While some like 1001 nights, I find it to be nothing more than glorified cough medicine. There is ABSOLUTELY no substitute for Shooting Star moassel.

Ohhh I do agree SS is was beyond AZ!!! .. AZ is the closest we can get in the US to a similar style.

Who sells Desi Murli? I have a few friends that are pretty big cigar fans that may enjoy this stuff. Anything lower than Nakhla or Tangiers they refer to as "sissy shisha".

Hookah1 and Texas Hookah both carry Desi Murli. I wouldn't equate it to cigar smoke, but more of a sipping shisha. It still has the feel of shisha, but also has a rich and intricate tobacco taste(not unlike cigars). Its amazing to explore and enjoy at liesure. Don't make any plans.
I wish I had had the opportunity to enjoy the Shooting Star phenomenon, but I can understand where people are coming from with the rave reviews. Its like the microbrew of shisha. I'm waiting to see if these AZ mini tins are going to become a reality before I take the $40 plunge.

Yea I am right there with you Cypher. Not ready yet to drop 40 bucks on AZ quite yet. Heck, I am still waiting to get my first hookah in the mail so I can get my feet wet. Hey maybe we can get a forum hookah up and get some sample AZ packages. I would definitely down to paying a few bucks for a bowl or two of it. In the mean time I order some Desi from Texas Hookah. So far I have a nice mix of Nakhla, HH, AF, and now some Desi on the way to try out. I think my first smoke session will be quite interesting.

I can almost guarantee they'll like DM if they're cigar buffs.

I also can't wait for the mini AZ tins because I have been waiting to try AZ ever since I came to the forums, actually.

I've smoked AF or anything else washed with them and they complain that all you taste is the fruit. Being cigar and pipe buffs they want to taste the tobacco. I looked at TX Hookah but they don't have the flavor I want and hookah1 like doesnt exist.

LOL Just because they are having web trouble doesn't mean they don't exist! You can call Kamal or send him an e mail. I have posted both pieces of information in his introductory thread.

Thanks for the info Dunk, I guess not existing is a bit of an exaggeration. LOL

I have 8 flavors of DM and I think they all have the taste of tobacco, or at least compared to AF etc. Be sure to order some Kewra, seems like everyone likes that flavor.

I don't think that a Shooting Star alternative exists but I will say that several other small, family brands are as good although different. Basically, it simply isn't possible to mimic the leaf selection, the herbs used, the curing and aging processes and the overall craftsmanship.

DM is great stuff but it's totally different.
