Default Coal usage..

Hey guys now before I ask ive been smoking for quite a while (2 n a half years) i just had a question about appropriate coal usage ive noticed that in a lot of the video reviews and stuff of people smoking hookah they are all using up to 4 coals on their bowl whenever i try to put more than 2 on my tangiers medium phunnel i get really harsh smoke (i can only put one on my egyptian clay bowls) am i doing something wrong here my setup at the moment is al fakher with a tangiers med funnel a 32' km and belgian QL 40mm coals (these are new i used to use 30mm) i was just wondering if anyone could give me an ideal setup based on this information my current setup seems to work but i cant help but wonder if my experience is hampered by not doing something right and im sure there are a ton of people who have waaaayy more experience than me any info would be perfect ( btw before you go bashing QLs i used to use naturals but i broke my electric cooker using them so they are no no at the mo) phew long post! any help would be appreciated! thanks in advance guys and gals!

most of the videos you see use natural coals I'm guessing. Three 40mm qls might be too much...not to mention the bad taste that may be generated also. I use 3 ******* Hookah natural coals on my Small Tangiers Phunnel, and it works just fine.

Most people in reviews are using natural coals, you don't need as many when using QLs.

Oh cool I just havnt really had any experience with 40mm quicklights thinking about it now though i think i may actually be burning the tobbacco beacause im either putting too much in or my foil aint tight enough ( less likely the amount of electrical tape i wrap around the bowl should be solving this) anyways ill try a bowl tommorow using a different technique and see if i notice any difference

Seanzo, try cutting those 40mm coals in 1/2 and use three 1/2s. I think I did that once with 40mm and it worked great.

...You wrap electric tape around your bowl? lol

You don't need to do that. Just make the foil REALLY REALLY tight around the bowl so its nice and air tight lol

Maybe your packing the bowl too high and thats why its harsh?

i am not a big fan of the round coals the square and finger ones is where its at it made heat management so much easier for me. But i use two ch coals on my small phunnel and a windcover to start it off then take it off when it gets going

a bowl you put 1 QL on can need 3 nats. i use 3 CH nats on my egyptian bowls and tangier small phunnel (some only use 2 coals), for a few flavors i have to drop to 2, and for some flavors i can push 4 but its getting a bit dicey. on my sahara smoke king bowl i used 5 nat coals, that was interesting, good times

When you guys say QLs give off more heat than naturals does this apply to CH QLs?

from what i have heard and seen in vids of people smoking with them, not so much i think they give off heat closer to the nats, but i think they also last longer than normal QLs. havent tried them yet... totally should have gotten a box for back up cause i could have used them a couple times
