Default Rust on the stem

Hi, I'm new to the forum, but I've been silently looking around while deciding on what kind of hookah to invest in. I've been smoking out of a friend's cheap chinese hookah that he won while rushing a frat and I finally decided to get my own.

Anyway, long story short, I opted to get the 31" Temsah Tri-Metal (smokes WAAAAAAYYYY better than the junk i was using before) from **********.com and it arrived just in time for the weekend. So I've only been using it like every other night since last Friday (cleaning it out after I use it and leaving it to airdry on the kitchen counter). Today I noticed something that looks like rust in one of the welds and on the very top lip of the stem where the metal is curled over. I tried rubbing most of it off with a towel, but is there anything I can do? I don't want to have to deal with the irony of having my nice hookah rust when that crappy chinese one didn't.

The chinese was made out of Aluminum most likely while this one is steel. This is somewhat typical of the handmade pipes, the places that weren't plated. On mine it usually happens on the bottom of the flanged end of the downstem on my kms or up in the chiller. Since its just surface rust get some fine grit sandpaper and sand it off and towel dry the stem after cleaning. Another thing is don't store the stem inside the vase right away, if its not dry humidy inside will make it rust.

Okay, so this is normal? I was a little worried that I might've seriously screwed up my hookah or something.

I'm actually kinda concerned about the rust I can't see, mainly around the folded lip on the top of my stem since it's not a completely closed and folded over. Is there anything to be done about that? Or will a little rust not hurt?
