Default broke a stem

one day i started a bowl up and as i was smoking, something was VERY different, there was no rumble/bubbly noise, i was confused because i was getting good smoke, but the silence was eerie. i finished the bowl and checked my stem. it turned out that there is a split right down the center (it acts like a diffuser now). does anyone know where i can find just the stem?

i went here but they sell the entire thing:

http://www.hookahcompany.com/replace...ems_81_ctg.htm

im just looking for the part that touches the water (downstem?)

Yep, downstem, depending on the type of threads you have (that is if it is a removable downstem) you can talk to H-S and send pics or whatnot, see if they have any in stock.

If you have an Egyptian hookah with a non-threaded downstem that doesn't come off...you need to either saw the downstem off and get a new one and solder it back on.... or get a new stem or even a new hookah.

, I had to laugh at that comment. I sometimes wonder that too!

If I was in your position, I would try welding it back together...Then if that fails, just buy one. But I wouldn't know where to look...

somehow it split right down the center. i put a piece of electric tape on it to cover up the hole and give it that manly growl it once had. it felt way too weird smoking my silent hookah. i guess this will suffice until i order a new downstem.

pretty funny how i got my order in today - nammor hose and shisha. i pack a bowl and get the hose ready, only to find out that my downstem was split down the center. wish i knew that beforehand.

Becasue they smoke great and I like them - i have 3 syrians, 1 eyptian and 1 mod. I smoke from the Egyptian 7/8ths of the time.

If you haven't used a good quality Egyptian, don't diss them.

depending.....

you could make easily make a new stem if its screw on with a few bux worth of stuff at Home Depot.

If you have a pic of the downstem..... or could take one... it would be helpful and I might be able to give you a step by step fix.

I noticed that it split at the seam. Can't you solder that and it would work?

Because a lot of great Narhgiles are made in Egypt. While it is true that a lot crap comes from Egypt if you buy from one of the better brands you will almost certainly be happy. On the whole I much prefer Syrians but it simply is unfair to condemn all Egyptian narghiles as poorly made. I've had far better experiences with high quality stuff from Egypt then I have from the PRC.

As to your down stem i'd suggest geting someone to soder it if possible and if not following lake's suggestion for modifying something from Home Depot would be the way to go.

the only beef i have with egpytian style is the stem. to me, syrian hookahs are better because everything can be unscrewed which makes it alot more easy to clean and pack for trips.

i finally have a solution to my hookah problems, after noticing other problems it has:

-broken downstem
-the hose port can only support a lightweight hose
-rusting on the inside is way too soon.
-it tips over way too much

so im going to buy a stargate.

Given the problems you listed throwing the old rig out is a good idea. Personally, I would recommend a well made Syrian from J & R or www.furathookahs.com as they both offer wonderful products with excellent build quality. A KM from hookah company, hookah life or PYH would also be a good bet. All of those options will give you a great rig that will last you many years and give fantastic sessions.
