Default Social Smoke Syrian Hookahs?

I was snooping around social smoke, and I noticed that they FINALLY updated their hookah inventory to include Myas and Syrians. I was looking around the Syrian section and for each one it says that the stems are hand fromed hand cut brass. I was under the impression that there were only a couple Syrian hookahs left with actual brass stems, and that the majority that you could find now would be stainless steel. Can anyone shed light on this?

Im familiar with the line they carry....

They are gettin a bit scarce for some reason.... I own three of them.

Depending on what model it is, it can be either cast bronze and sleeved with a continuous downstem.

for the money they are nice.... one of them is my " go-to".

Some of them have "open-hearts" some dont..... so there are a few differences in them going from one to the other. If you want, post the ones you like and I can tell you if its cast or spun....and if it has an open (4 holed) heart.

BTW... the ones with the wood are neat.

I forgot to mention....

Some of those have screw down ports instead of purge valves. Meaning that you will have to unscrew it a bit, blow the smoke out, then tighten it up again. Basically a manual operation valve. No ball bearings. Kind of a bitch.

I have a drill press, so I converted mine to a ball lock valve using the original stuff and a BB.

Each and every one of the 13 listed on this page claim to be brass http://www.socialsmokehookah.com/cat...anhookahs.html That's why I'm wondering if it's true or not, because all of them say that they are hand formed hand cut brass...

All of them have some brass parts.

Some of them have a majority of spun steel parts. All the chrome ashplates with the scallops are made of steel.

All of them have brass hose connections, for instance. Most of them are a hodgepodge of cast and spun parts...

The featured parts on them are hand formed using sand casting (most likely) and then are hand tooled on a lathe... the embellishments on these brass parts are done by hand. Which makes the hand formed and cut valid.

They are not 100% brass (necessarily).

I imagine it would be one long and drawn out product description detailing percentages of what is what...

yeah. The prices are low for "hand cut hand formed brass" Syrians... I'm just still wondering if it's full brass and not a mix... I wish they could have gotten this inventory and prices two years ago. I would've bought one of the $80 Syrians instead of the $70 Traditional Egyptian I purchased at that time. I'm sure these Syrians are better than most if not all of the tradtional egyptians...IMO

I want to get a syrian some time, but I love my KM because of the nice purge valve and the big airways.

Yeah for sure dude, there are just too many flaws in Egyptian hookahs that Retailers either overlook or don't care about..

My thoughts exactly... That's why I went from having an ok egyptian to upgrading to a Mya... Still, I wish I would've gotten one of these Syrians instead of my egyptian two years ago, lol... but hey, I can't complain because I don't even smoke out of my egyptian anymore (the Mya put it into retirement) so it doesn't really matter...

Lake, I'd be interested in hearing which SS Syrians you feel have the best build quality and which have a four holed heart.

I've never dealt with SS but I am told that they are good company and that the Syrians they carry are of high quality. Still, the Syrians that J & R and Furat carry are wonderful so I am not too motivated to risk buying from SS.

As to Egyptian stuff i'd avoid anything that isn't made by Magdy Zidan, Khalil Mamoun or El Ashrey. All three of those brands are very good to fantastic but with anything else from Egypt i've found too much stuff that is clearly poorly built to risk a purchase.

right off the bat....

From top to bottom and left to right on the Syrian page, #3 and #9 have 4 holed hearts.

I'll try to post later on ones I thought are good from actual use or first hand inspection.

Hey Abu, that model there will most likely have a manual carb on it. You will have to unscrew it a bit to purge it and then screw it back down to smoke.

MacGuyver sez:

You can convert it easily if you have a grinder (angle or bench, dremel tool) and a BB or airsoft pellet and a small drill bit.

Doesn't matter, I just got the rig in the mail and after shopping around for months and finally deciding on the syrian, then waiting with baited breath for a week, they sent me a completely DIFFERENT RIG THAN THE ONE THEY HAVE ON THEIR WEBSITE!!!!! Different vase, different stem, in fact the only thing that resembled the one they advertised was the bowl. Now, I'm sure there's a good reason for this mistake, but I'm gonna be honest here, I am totally fucking pissed off!!!

I would get in touch with them abu, asap, so you can work it out ... don't use it or you won't be able to return it.

Sorry to hear the bad news, that would suck!

Social Smoke is a good Compant, but that does suck. Give them an opportunity to redeem themselves. If they don't, than thats just horrible on their part.

Good Luck!

Ohhh Yeah, I know what you mean, the excitement of getting a new rig!!! And then you get it and it is either a let down, or not what it was supposed to be ... it is definitely a bummer!

Seriously though, don't get to heated, I bet that they will take care of it all. Give them a chance, heck they are now members here, maybe they may msg you this weekend to touch base with you.

Keep a level head, give them a chance, and keep us posted ...
