Default charcoal questions, newb here

sup guys, i use QLs for my hookah. are u supposed to put the round side down or up on the foil? idk what kind of QLs they are, they only last about 30-45 min. could they have a significant effect on the taste if theyre not really good quality? also, what do u guys think of the combo bowl? and whats the most popular general brand of shisha? thanks!

First off, welcome to the forums! You're suppossed to put the flat side touching the foil. You don't want the round side touching the foil, because it won't have as much contact area as the flat side. Also it could move the coals around during the session. Quicklights will have a very slight chemical taste to them. They must use a chemical to quickly ignite and become red hot unlike naturals. There are some quicklights that will taste like crap, and others that will barely be noticeable.

Look around the review section for more details on different quicklight coals versus natural coals. You'll also find answers for your shisha brand questions there as well. In my experience, I've found that both Three Kings and Golden Coals are top notch quality quicklights. Three kings might have a barely noticable taste in the middle of the session. Golden coals, from what I've experienced, don't have a chemical taste whatsoever.

Also, don't forget to let the coals FULLY light before placing them on the bowl. Meaning, they have to be glowing orange and have a thin layer of ash before you begin your session. A lot of times, people don't do this, and end up having a strong chemical taste during their session for obvious resons...

welcome again. as for the combo bowl, i have never been let down. i dont even own one but my friend has one and its the only bowl we use on his hookah. just remember that you will need a bit less coal with the combo bowl than you will with a regualr bowl and a windcover, because the entire metal screen gets hot and the lid keeps most of the heat close to the bowl

hia. welcome to the boards...

as far as shisha goes, Al Fakher is my go-to brand. nothing has really let me down from AF (besides cappuchino....). specifically, grape, mint, and rose....those are all pretty delicious.

Welcome to the forum from us also. ( This is not self promo Read on first) We sell the combo bowls. They are not as strong usualy as a regualr bowl. They also tend to smoke better when the coal is split over each section. I see alot of people on line take time in making a bowl. We smoke at least 10 bowls a day here. So its all about speed not tradition for us. I say find the flavors you want throw them down on a clean counter plate etc... what ever your heart desires and hand mix them. Once you find that combo of tobacco you like/ love you will be able to mix large batched up and store them in like a tupperware container.

This is just friendly advice from a shop that does alot of hookah and always looks for an easier way to do thing.

Welcome to the board! Everyboady has given great tips.

I myself don't like the combo bowls too much (although they have their place & useage), just becasue it can quickly overheat and destroy a otherwise great session. They are good bowls with you are limited (no extra windcover) or slightly acident prone, they just take pratice to use correctly.

As to the Ql's, I have done both sides - why? If I am using 2 coals, I put one flat, 1 round - it helps with the heat management. Just becareful, the coal on the round side will rock - take care to not let it fall off the bowl.

Also, everybody here will list a "best brand" of tabacco - what I love you may have, and visa versa. Best thing I can say is to read thru the Review section and see what people say about what brands they like.

Good luck!
