Ice water in a little generic pumpkin is tricky, because the base is so tiny. Although, when I got my first hookah (probably similar to yours) I was able to get really thick clouds with Al Fakher and Al Waha.

Make sure you're letting your coals heat all the way through before placing them on the bowl. I'd use one instant light, broken in half, and place each half on opposite edges of the bowl or use 1.5 natural coals, here again, broken into halves. Definitely watch the videos here for bowl packing and heat management techniques. And try smoking without the diffuser and see if that doesn't help.

Pumpkins are great mini hookah's, the only thing I don't like about them is that on some you can't get a nammor or alike hose to fit in the hose port, and if you some how do, it can easily tip over. But besides that, never failed for me.

To get great smoke, just choose the right tobacco and manage your heat correctly.

pack that baby tight and put two good coals up top

you'll get some harsh smoke, but at least the clouds will be big

(not serious, flavor is more important than smoke)

If you're using the standard Mya bowl, its a bit tricky to get smoking right. Its small as far as diameter but deep so this creates some problems with heating the tobacco. When I used one of these bowls, the top of the bowl will get cooked quicker than the bottom where a juicier tobacco will hold the flavor so you'll get less flavor and smoke. If you are smoking wetter tobaccos(AF, SB...etc) you might want to invest in a funnel or vortex. These bowls hold the juices better and will smoke your wetter tobaccos better. If you smoke dryer tobacco(Nakhla is the most common) then a standard Egyptian would do fine because these tobaccos don't run like the wetter tobaccos. Either way I'd recommend replacing the standard Mya bowl if thats what you received with your hookah.
Best of luck

i'm going to assume he's using the standard small modern bowl i believe is what comes with that hookah, either 33mm or 40mm ql's, the standard metal tip chinese hose hose with a narrow gauge.
i had one of these, the only way to get moderate smoke from it is to make sure the water level is perfect, pack the bowl right, just sprinkle the tobacco in there (don't pack it tight because your draw will be horrible and restricted), and if you are using ql's break them into halves or thirds and put them at the edge of the bowl and rotate them as needed.
that's all I can say how to get decent smoke and a decent session out of it.
getting a new hose and bowl would really be pointless in attempt to get more smoke because of the narrow size of the hose port.
