This is the first time i have posted because i wanted to have a legitimate question before i post. I have been smoking with a normal size phunnl bowl and i smoked for about an hour and 20 min last night and went through 5 coals. is this normal and also how is the best way to store them because i had a little trouble starting them.

If you read the box CH coals come with, it says the BEST way to store them is in an airtight ziplock bag. However, it won't harm the quality much if they are just stored in a box or something.

The number of coals seem about right, but what size/type of phunnel bowl are you using?

make sure you let them light all the way and let them ash and turn red before you start. I like using a butane torch or a benzomatic to get things going with this coal, just light toss in a metal dish, let it heat up w/ its friends, and serve

edited: red that wrong originally!

Yeah that seems normal, CH QL's tend to go about 30 minutes until you cannot use them (imparts flavor, not hot enough, etc.). So 2 at once = 4 coals per hour ~ 5 coals 1.5 hours (1 coal in last 30 min as to not burn anything and use the other 2 dying coals).

You MUST store QL coals in an airtight container. Otherwise the built in powder that ignites them will go dormant and then they are just smelly Naturals.

Stop using QL's. QL's suck IMO. Use the regular Nats's. I got the single burner from wall greens for 9 bucks. OMG what a difference. The coals are ready faster than on the gas stove. Light up quick as hell POOF. well not that fast but about 2 to 3 mins.

WHen he sent them out to some of use to test before they even came out, They were good QL coals, but gave the lovely QL coal Monoxide migraine. So they are just QL coals to me.

if you're wanting to prolong it a bit, try a wind cover, I've been rockin a BFC monster can wind cover, and I've cut my coal usage by like one or two, but maybe that's just me

I just received my CH QL's from john today and I must say that they are good coals, the only problem I noticed is that if I don't use a wind cover, the coals start turning off after 10 mins of being ignited, so I highly recomend using wind cover with this coals.
