Default Found a local Arab grovcery.

Yesterday while browsing the forum, I noticed more than once that people were getting great deals on shisha at local outlets. I did a Google search and found a write-up of a local Arab grocery store about 10 minutes from my house. The writer mentioned seeing hookahs on display, so I decided to check it out. Turns out they carry Nakhla, Al Fakher and even a few tins of Starbuzz.

They didn't have many flavors, but they did have my go to, Nakhla DA in 250gr box (no jars or tins unfortunately). They even had Zaghloul in 250gr.

And what did I pay? (drum roll please.....) $5.00, tax included!

I also picked up an ibrik (Turkish coffee ***) for $6.99.

I was in a bit of a hurry, so I didn't get to check out the hookahs, in fact I didn't see them while I was there. The man behind the counter was extremely friendly, he even tried to help me pronounce "Nakhla" correctly, ending with "It's hard to say yes?". LOL!

So anyway, it pays to check around!

I've got two local options - a smoke shop, that is great for pipe tobacco and cigars, but they charge 30 bucks for 250g of SB!

There is a grocery with SB, Nakhla, AF, and a few other brands that I havent checked out, hookahs, coals, the whole deal - unfortunately is right between to metro stops so it takes awhile to get there. The service is great though, and there is a ton of other cool stuff there. I'm glad you found the place, Arab grocers are usually good places to shop around and chat up some cool folks

Great find! Congrats on the discovery. The Arab grocery in Atlanta doesn't carry a wide selection of flavor either. They have Nakhla DA (in the jar and box), Mint and Apricot. That's all they sell. Still, the Nakhla in the box is about five bucks cheaper for 250gr than in any other store I've ever seen.

For a big city, Philadelphia is very much lacking in it's shisha supplies. There is a store sort of near-by that sells Nakhla and Al Faker, but way over-priced for each. They also sell their own blends of shisha for $7 per 50g bag. Haven't had the nerve to try it. I found the place originally while looking online, and someone, somewhere, said they sold Tangiers, packaged in little jars and branded Delicioso for $7. Seems like they did all the preparing of it themselves and just threw it in jars.

Sorry to disappoint you if you believed them but that's not Tangiers.

I don't believe them. I never asked. I went by what I had previously heard. It seemed like a stretch to be true in the first place. Going through all that trouble and re-packaging... though the Maraschino Cherry jar that I got was delicious.

Back at home the only shisha available were Havana, Nakhla, Starbuzz, and Hookah Hookah. Now that I;m at college, I thought that that amount would be larger or at least a better selection. Bu to my dismay, all they have is Hookah Hookah, its not very much fun..But i still have a few kilos to go through before I run out.

I made another trip to this store today and found the selection was expanded a bit.

They now have Nakhla Mizo Mint, Grape and Watermelon. $7.99

They also have more hookahs, mostly "generic" Chinese stuff but they had Mya QTs for $35.99 and to my surprise Mya Petites for $19.99.

I was a bit dismayed to find the price on Nakhla DA went up. It's now $5.99 for a 250gr box.

So, I walked out with 144 pcs of Starlight Natural coals, a 250 of DA and a 250 of Mizo Watermelon. Total bill including tax...

$23.17

arab stores are great for getting shisha and stuff like tea.
when i visited some friends in berlin, i went to an arab grocery store and they had some "original" nakhla 250g packs for 5€ (normal price here is like 15€). it was not the crap you can get legally in germany, thats why i wrote "original". they also had some "original" al waha 250g tins for 8€.

sometimes its good to check out the arab stores.

Definitely. Call them up first. Make sure you ask for Shisha tobacco. Most middle eastern people usually refer to the pipe as the 'shisha'. If you ask if they have 'shisha' they might tell you no if they only carry tobacco and no pipes. If they speak broken English, putting the words 'shisha' and 'tobacco' together will probably give them the right idea.

The best part about local shops, price is ALWAYS negotiable. Don't be told otherwise. Although looks like he charged reasonable rates which is rare right off the bat!

I wish there were places like these around here. i'm sure they're around but i've been to about 6 middle eastern markets, 5 of which looked at me like I had two heads and the other had old ass nakhla 250's for $10. He told me it was a lot to smoke anyway and to try the head shop down the road lol....the search continues.

These kind of places are gold.. they like to give their stuff away. I have a little halal market that sells golden canary coals for $9 a box.
