Default First Impressions...

So, had my first smoke ever last night - Nakhla Peach from my MYA QT using two ******* Hookah Natural Coals. I filled the vase with ice and cold water, and smoked in my basement.

First impressions - the smoke was very mild compared to the cigars I'm used to smoking, but did have the peach flavor throughout the one-hour session. I got some decent clouds, but nothing like some of the videos I've seen. As many said, the smoke did dissapate very quickly, and my house did not smell at all like smoke. My fiancee was asleep upstairs at the time. She woke up earlier than me this morning and did her normal workout DVD in the basement. After breakfast, I told her I was smoking hookah down there last night. Had I made no mention of it, she would STILL be oblivious to it! Great success!

Upon cleanup, I took the foil off the bowl and was surprised by what I saw. Only a small layer of the top crust appeared to be blackened, while the rest of the shisha seemed warm and slightly moist. I found this odd, as I expected to pull off the foil and see a ball of blackened, shriveled shisha. Did I do something wrong?

Alll in all, it was an enjoyable experience. I did get decent smoke. I did get a buzz. My only complaint might've been that I didn't acheive those huge clouds of smoke I see on the videos.

good you enjoyed it. you didnt do anything wrong, there was just shisha left and you couldve smoked longer if it wasnt all blackened. you dont generally get huge clouds from nakhla as easily as something like AF etc, as it dont contain as much glycerine (mizo is a bit different), but i can get big clouds iwht normal nakhla, it needs a bit more heat to get those clouds bigger as it can handle more heat.

itll just take a bit of practice till you manage to get the heat management rite etc

Congrats on your first hookah session!!! Nakhla is not usually the choice of new hookah smokers but I am glad that you enjoyed it.

Nakhla is a shisha that will give you okay clouds but great flavor, if you are looking for huge, thick clouds of smoke then you might want to try a shisha like starbuzz. They Have many differnet flavors. You also might want to try and use three coals if you have a tangiers funnel bowl.

As far as the burnt shisha, you did nothing worng. In the hookah culture you learn as you go. Depending on how much shisha you used and how tight you packed your bowl, there might be some good shisha left in the bowl. You could either pack less shisha or you can mix up or take off the blackened shisha and light up some more coals.

Once again congrats on your first session being a successful and enjoyable one!!!

Welcome to Hookah pro!!!

I did use one of those JUMBO MYA bowls, so perhaps I could've done better with a third coal?

yeah dont know about the MYA jumbo bowls, but on a medium clay bowl i use 3 natural coals, and its just right. play around iwh t a windcover or some foil crowns to gett he heat just right. you can also experiment with how much you pack and how tightly its packed.

try a few and see how you get on. i really like nakhla, but watch out for that buzz if you are not used to smoking!!!

Nahkla is a very heat tolerant shisha to burn all the shisha you use either use less shisha or get a windcover/ use more coals. normally if you still have color in your bowl you can sometimes get another round of coals out of it.

Those Mya bowls are large but the heat is harder to manage. I burnt the hell out of my hand one day taking one of those mya bowls off the hookah.

Glad that your first experience was enjoyable. I had trouble with nahkla the first few times I smoked it as well. Just listen to the advice you get here and you'll be fine. Happy smoking!

Good stuff eh? Since you're a cigar guy you should try some Desi Murli!

I'd replace your bowl if you get into it more, the bowl that came with my Mya QT was a piece of junk. As in, my sessions weren't as good and when I dropped and broke it I just shrugged.

I have. After reading that the stock bowl is one of the most common complaints about the QT, I headed to my local tobacconist who has a limited amount of hookah supplies (mostly MYA). They carry no phunnel bowls, Vortex bowls, Tangiers bowls... just I picked up the Jumbo MYA bowl, as it seemed like the best option available.

Tried my luck again this afternoon, smoked some Nakhla El Basha Grape. I used the same MYA Jumbo bowl, but added a third coal this time. Much better results - more smoke. When I took off the foil at the end of the session, I seemingly did a better job of smoking all the shisha. None of it was really burnt, but I didn't have all that moist shisha left over like I did on Friday. It's coming around...
