Default KM Assembly...

So I just got a KM about a week ago, and I am still having such a hard time taking the stem out of the vase. To get the stem in the vase before I smoke, I have been using a little olive oil, but I guess it soaks into the grommet by the time I take it off.

Anyone else have this issue? Does it get better with time?

No you just have a tight shitty Km grommet. You can either sand it down, or buy a smaller grommet, or use Electrical tape and a smaller grommet.

You can also keep doing what you're doing, but use vegetable oil, olive oil could get in your base and impart taste.

Good to know. Might have to sand it down a bit, hopefully I don't mess up the tight fit too much.

All you have to do is sand it gently, a little at a time, all around making sure it's flush so the hookah doesn't sit crooked. it's much easier than it sounds.

My fit is really tight too but I don't have trouble getting it out just don't try to pull it straight out. Try wiggling it, or moving the stem in a circular motion while gently pulling up and it comes free from the base fairly easily

Yeah, That's what I've been doing. I'll probably keep doing that for a bit until I go too crazy with it!

FYI, the Vortex with the KM is godly. We've had a couple of multi-hour sessions where we just kept piling on coals with no taste of burning!

Getting it wet helps tons.

Also, electrical tape sucks, use teflon tape (White plumber's tape).

For the silicone tape, do you sand the grommet a bit, or just put it over as-is?

I had to take a quarter of a inch off mine or more, its a pain in the butt. That's why in the comment area you tell them to make sure it fits without a trouble. well good luck i suggest using a dremel to do it. Takes less time.

I bought it locally, so I didn't have that option. Would've been nice though!

You're one step ahead of me with your olive oil. I used saliva with my first hookah. Worse than olive oil when it dries. No really.

water should work everytime, especially if your km came in a km box. there are varying glass bases out there as well as grommets, try the water thing first, if not, what they said above.

in time, your grommet might wear away naturally too, which will help. but its better to be too tight than too loose (no sexual reference intended, strictly grommet talk)

I guess the problem is more after smoking, and the next day when i try to remove the stem. Guess it's better that it's tight rather than the opposite as swaflyer1 said.

Why are you removing the stem the day after smoking? If you don't clean it right after you smoke at least take the stem out and empty the water.

I know I probably should, I usually get lazy or I am smoking right before going out, so too drunk too think about doing that...Perhaps I should try more!
