Hmmm..you may wish to take a look at this thread. The poster was considering the same hookah..I would suggest reading it all!

http://www.hookahpro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16385

I have a H-S generic egyptian hookah and personally would not recommend it!

I saw that thread and Dee you talking about the NILE version in that thread.
most of the review thread for the sphinx is full of praise. Also a few people in that thread you mention say its a good hookah for the price.
Plus I've already hit my $150 dollar budget and then some. So i cant really go as far as getting a KM i feel i should go the way of getting a car.
First time drivers dont get a porsche, they start out with a cheap car learn the mistakes then upgrade. So that's the route I'm going.

Agreed. I started with the Nile and have since upgraded. All of the H-S generic egyptian hookahs use the same common plated construction. My Nile smokes fine, no complaints there. It's just that the plated common chamber is literally impossible to clean, there is no way to get a cleaning brush into it. About the only thing you can do is fill the chamber with a cleaning solution of some sort and rinse it out the best you can. This will be the same for the Sphinx.
And yeah, what sucks about getting into hookah is that even after you've made the up-front investment, you find yourself spending money on it all the time! LOL!

That's a nice piece and imo a good starter package. If I had the chance to start over again with a new piece for the first time I would go with a Magdy Zidan Kairo or a Khalil Mamoon Diskus for the piece. Both come with a very decent hose that is washable and basically on par with a Namoor in quality and smoke draw.

As for the bowl, Phunnel bowls are good but tricky to start out with which may discourage your first sessions...if you go with a Phunnel you will also want a Scali mod which will make smoking through a Phunnel a hell of a lot easier. However, for a first timer I would recommend a Vortex which is imo one of the best bowls out there and easy to setup and smoke.

Your coal choice is great. Your tobacco choice is good too. No matter what choice you make enjoy the new piece and welcome to the world of hookah. The above is just my opinion if I had to start from scratch again because I know I've spent a good amount of cash on upgrades to strive for the best session and the above is how I would go about it to save some cash in the long run.

H-S Egyptians should all be dismantled and sent straight to Hell where they belong. Other than that, get a KM and you are set.

Now that you show me that KM for that price, I'm starting to set up an order there on TheHookah.com. I'm actually excited since they have 50g starbuzz! i really want to try a little of everything to find the brand for me
thanks for the referral to that site! I'll be back in 20 to show a challenge cart!

Right on. BTW the search for the perfect tobacco is never ending because there are a lot out there and it seems like more and more new ones show up all the time...but Starbuzz is a good brand to start out on. It's definitely one of my fav brands. Enjoy!

I believe the phunnels from H-S are all medium sized (correct me if i am wrong) the one I had (til it broke!) looked bigger than all the photos of the small size I saw. I didn't use it as much as I would have liked because of how much it held.

And the Free Mya, do it. It's the hookah I have, and it's a champ for such a little guy.

I say get the KM too. They are unbelievable well made and the craftsmanship is very unique. Definitely a crowd gatherer at parties. My friend had one and people would line up to smoke his and my poor lonely crappy mya got no attention until the birth of the funnel, then they all flocked to me. Either way, a 1 hose beast of a hookah is better than a 2 hose decent hookah. Also the cleaning of the KM is sooo easy since all the parts don't come apart you don't have to take the hookah apart to clean seals and threads. You just run a brush through it then some water and your done. My mya used to take me 20 min to clean in the sink, now I clean my KM in the bathtub (its a 32" so its a tall hookah) and it takes me no more then 5 min. Its great. Starbuzz is a good start, easy to make a bowl and for a newbie it should give you a buzz.
