Default problem

ok so i own two hookahs, a 30 inch from hookah-shisha and a smaller personal one. I left to go back to school in august and forgot the smaller one in my basement freshly used without cleaning it..i just found it.. it was pretty nasty the water was a brown slush and there was some kind of white build up and rust on the the metal part that sticks in the water..i cleaned it completely and got about 98% of the former grime off of everything i even threw it in the dishwashe..do you think its safe to use?

Why wouldn't it be safe to use? Just make sure after all the chemicals you used to clean to properly wash off, and maybe you should be worried about the bacteria collecting in the hose and stem...

i'd probably ditch the hose, wash the stem/base out with bleach, becareful of any grommets/sealsa and make sure u rinse it out well. Nothing that can grow in a hookah can withstand that...

as long as you give it a good wash afterwards and let it dry the bleach should get outta there.

DILUTED BLEACH... NOT just straight bleach lol...

I see you already bleached it... Think about it though, we use diluted bleach to clean childrens toys and all...

Just make sure after you bleached it to put tons of washings thru it... bleach isn't going to "stick" to the stem or anything, so just a thorough washing will suffice. Use your best judgment on when you think it's good enough. As long as you are not mentally retarded, you should be fine from here on out.. That hose though... EW!

I cleaned my MYA hose last night for the first time since purchasing it... rougly 40 bowls run through it... It LITERALLY came out tabacco brown... so nasty... I am guessing that is the reason behind the ghosting i was smelling/tasting...

Mya hoses aren't made to be washable - they have a metal coil on the inside. Watch out for rust..

if they advertise it as a washable hose and it turns out not to be washable, you may get a new hose out of it

--- I bought the hookah from the corner store, but i looked up the hose to see if i could wash it... it said washable...

the hookah had horrid ghosting and the smell of that was coming along with the smoke literally made me sick to my stomach. even if i might have decreased the life of the hose it is well worth the smell not being there... rather have a couple good smokes left rather than MORE nasty ones...

If you bleached it, just rinse it with vinegar afterwards. The acid in the vinegar will neutralize the bleach. I use this method to cure cattle horns for drinking out of.
