Default tangiers on modern ceramic

I sprinkled about 80% of Tangiers Cocoa into a modern ceramic and pressed down with a fork. This ended up giving me a nice gap between the rim and the HD foil. My hole pattern was traditional with 2 coconaras on opposite sides. This thing smokes great with no harshness!

This is the way I pack all of my non-phunnel bowls and is actually the first time I am trying this with Tangiers. It's perfect

Did you find it left something of a mess? That seems to be the only drawback to smoking Tangier's in a non-phunnel bowl.

Just the juices from the tobacco running down the bowl. When I smoke tangiers in an egyptian, when I pull the bowl off there's juice running out the bottom of the bowl and onto the stem and try. Water and downstem get a bit dirty also. No big deal, just gotta clean up after it.

Tangiers is my favorite and I have yet to try it in a non-standard bowl... Why fix what ain't broke as they say.

As for the drippiness, it depends on how long the bowl is sitting there. It's not that bad if it's sitting there a while anyway, and I wash my stem after every smoke (and it's still in practically pristine condition thanks to that!)

I think I'm gonna have to throw some Tangiers into my next order then!

Thanks for this, man, I always thought about what would happen if you just put it in a regular bowl!

Try packing tight around the sides and looser in the middle. Poke a lot of holes in the foil including through the holes in the bowl from the bottom.

There's nothing wrong with smoking Tangiers from a traditional bowl as it was done that way for a while until the phunnel was made, which wasn't intended to be a bowl for his tobacco. The cut of the tobacco actually was and still is specifically for traditional bowls. The downsides are reduced longevity and restriction in draw compared to a phunnel bowl. Tangiers benefits from an overpack in traditional bowls but you can't really do that effectively without impacting flow.

I packed it tighter in the middle (pressed down with fork) under rim and there was more space around the sides.
More space around the sides meaning I could see some yellow from my yellow ceramic.
Think of it as a mound of sand or anthill.

There's no "right" way to do it so whatever works for you is best. I recommended what I did because I find I can pack more tobacco in that way without killing the draw.
