Default I rescued my Narbish!

So, last week I set my brand new Narbish hose up on the tray when I put the hookah up for the night. I didn't realize there was still a tiny little smoldering coal among the ashes. When I woke up the next morning, the thread had been burned away and the plasic had melted into this huge black welt. Plus, it warped the handle so that it was bent. Luckily, it was still sealed.

Disappointed, I went ahead and put in an order for a couple of Nammor hoses and a spare KM hose to match my other hookah. While we were smoking last night, I got the idea that perhaps I could gently soften the Narbish handle with heat and bend it back into shape. I used my coal burner and slowly heated the handle until I could gently bend it. It worked perfectly.

Then, I got ambitious and thought, perhaps I could simply recover the handle with something and make it presentable again. Well, some super glue, double sided tape and fancy velvet thread later, I'd managed to rewrap both handles of the hose to near the same quality they arrived with. And, with colors I'm more fond of.

Here's the results:

I have to admit, I'm pretty pleased. And, because there's a custom sense to the hose, I feel a great deal more fond of it than I did before. I'm almost interested in seeking out the raw parts to build my own hoses from scratch!

So, what do you guys think?

Looking great! I really like how you alternated colors between the handle and the port end.

I know exactly what you mean, when I redid my narbishes, I thought the same thing, other than mouth tips, all the parts you can find locally, from the plastic tube down to the thread. You wouldn't think it's that simple to make until you break it down

Looks great. I really love the new colors. If that was an offered color option I would happily order one of those over the black I plan on getting eventually.

See, I'm not quite sure what the different components are. Lets see if I can get them all:
-rubber inner-tubing (for making it washable)
-some kind of metal coil
-leather or faux-leather wrap to go around the coil
-thread to wrap the leather coil cover
-pvc piping for the handle
-rubber bowl grommets for the mouth-piece
-the hose tips
-and decorative materials for the handles

That mental breakdown of the hose seems complete. Did I miss something (John, you should chime in on this!)? Maybe I should just start a thread about it. I really am interested in designing my own. It seems like it'd be fun.

As far as I know know, the above two are the same one part. It's some type of hard plastic coil in a rubber "shell", but you can always use the clear (or dyed) vinyl hose instead.

Awesome job, you cant even tell that it went under the knife lol

on a side note I just got my new Narbish in. I haven't been able to use it but holy crap is it huge compared to my mya hose. No wonder they had to send it in a box.

btw, did you ever get that rubber smell/taste out?

I tired washing mines but I think I'll have to use lemon juice or baking soda

since you are asking me to chime in the most cost effective way to get all the parts is to get a defective one and replair it, for example, mouth and end tip could cost you $5+ then pvc ick $2-3, then running around getting all the parts, i can't advertise but what you did is the most cost effective way, all materials included. you just need to re use them.
i have tried myself to repair but it's time consuming and i am low on time and patience. but it seems you did a great job, thanks

I agree with John (especially since he was cool enough to discount those v1's for like $11-$12), all you'd really need is some glue, electrical tape and elbow grease. But if they were still over $20, diy all the way.

I ran vinegar & water through it a few times and it pretty much took care of the taste. Plus, just continuing to smoke it helped. I generally don't like real strong flavors, so I think it just took a little longer for me.

My interest in making the hose is a lot less in saving money (I'm pretty sure it's more expensive to make your own), my arts and crafts side just got a bit of a jolt. I think it'd be fun to make my own hoses from scratch just to be able to have them and feel the satisfaction of smoking from something totally unique, ya know?

BTW, I'm really loving the Narbish! Kudos!

Hmm, I might have to try that one too, I haven't even smoked through it yet. I took it out, was in awe, compared it to my mya while still in awe of the size difference then put it in my cabinet lol.
