Default Question About ******* Hookah Coals

The last few days I've been into my first box of CH coals. They're not bad. They have no taste at all, which I appreciate. But they also seem to burn cooler and faster than Coconara coals, and produce quite a bit more ash. I'm finding my vortex wants four CH coals to smoke right, while it'd usually only need three Coconara coals.

This is my first experience with CH coals, so I'm just wondering if this is normal or if perhaps I got a fluke box?

hmm...I dont have an an appropriate thermometer to measure temperature nor do i have any experience with coconaras, however I can safely say that i can get away with 3 CH QLs on either a vortex or small Phunnel. And as for ash, all i know is they ash less then standard QLs. Sorry I cant be of more help.

Generally that's been my experience as well, a tad bit more ash and coconaras last 15-20 mins longer on an average.

BTW check out KillerB's comparison vid, imo it was pretty accurate.

I use 3 CH coals and more heat management on a vortex with a single layer regular foil. I say more heat management because 3 CH coals can put out enough heat to burn some tobaccos if not nudged and prodded around. 4 would be too much in my experience.

I can't comment accurately anymore on how much longer Coconaras would last over CH nats because its been a while since I've used them but to me it wasn't a big deal and worth paying more for since a box of CH nats comes with more coals. Heat output to me was close enough that I wasn't concerned with it.

Cool. Thanks guys, that's helpful. I suppose it evens out since the box comes with about 30 more coals than Cocanaras anyway. Since they're close to the same price, I'll probably stick with Coconaras once I've used up the CH coals.

I've tried CH Naturals and Quicklights but never Coconara's. Personally my favorite coals are Shishaco's.

The way it was explained to me; was that CH coals are a little less compressed compared to coconara's. Great product at a great price, however after trying 1kilo of nats and ql's, I wasn't able to be converted from coco's. There is a science to what you notice so I guess it depends on your tecnique preference.

What tobacco are you using? I use two for HH and three for Tangiers and other wet tobaccos. I have never done four on a vortex. Doesn't seem like they would even fit. Lol.

4 CH is way too much for a vortex, IMO. i have never used more than three CH coals on any tobacco on any bowl.

I had my first try at Hookah Coals this past friday night. I'm glad to say that I'm now a huge fan. These lit up fast, I wasn't bothered by the smell or smoke at light up, the smell smells like fireworks(which i love) and I'm always outdoors when smoking so it didn't bother me at all.

They ash better than the golden quicklights

I keep Coco's and CH QLs, I prefer the cocos for standard kickback smoking just because they ash less, however for me heat management isn't significantly different with the CHQLs plus they light up instantly which is great if you're at a friends house or only have a gas-powered heat source... both are excellent products IMO

I can see using 4 on a large phunnel. But not on the vortex. I use CH nats, and they are the only coals i use.

It is true in my experience, they do a lot. However, i have yet to try coco's. I should buy a box but then again. I really like the CH nat's they really work well for me. I use 3 coals on my vortex and it works great. Most of the time, I never even have to flip them, or move them around much. I guess it just comes down to what you are used to.

Nope, no smoke. I sometimes notice a slight odor when lighting but nothing bad and it goes away once fully lit.
