Good idea. I have a couple of both and find different tobacco fits best in different bowls. I think going with both was a good decision.

I think that for a beginner a vortex is a better choice because there is less room for error. Then there is always the way I did it which was a med. phunnel but it can be any size and a scalli mod which saves tobacco and is failsafe.Till this day I switch off constantly but no more mod but when it comes to my best shisha it almost always ends up in my phunnel for some reason. They all break so buy two of each. Sahara Smoke sells vortex 3 packs with a nice savings, this way you don't have to wash them so often there always a clean one waiting.

Vortex bowl smokes better than my tangiers phunnel, but can't hold as much shisha so... shorter session..

does any one of them make more sense to you conceptually? packing, air flow direction, etc.. if one does, get that!

the vortex makes more sense to me functionally. though not as many aesthetic options--size, height, color--if those matter to you. consider that you might also need taller wind-covers for phunnels.

honestly they are so similar, I own both the phunnel and the vortex. when i am lazy i use the vortex, when i am ambitious i use the phunnel. phunnel is better when you have friends over bc the proper way to pack it is by packing it more tobacco than you would any other bowl, therefore longer sessions.

the vortex has simplicity on its side, pack it like any other bowl and smoke it, done deal.

just get both and use them in rotation, thats what i do.

Vortex all the way my friend. Unless you smoking tangiers the vortex is a masterpiece in hookah design and ease. Full proof smoking and if clouds are your thing vortex kills it

I have a vortex bowl and it works fantastic. Not to mention the incredibly long smoking sessions.
