I also feel this way. With dryer tobaccos, there isn't a need for the juices to pool because they rarely come off the tobaccos to even make it in the stem. If you use a standard Egyptian bowl the air is drawn through the tobacco and since the hot air is what creates the vapor, there is plenty of flavoring. The reason a funnel or vortex works well for wetter tobaccos is because they have enough honey/glycerin that the contact of the hot air across the top of the bowl is enough to create the smoke. One that I'm still working with is the Crown Hookah bowl but that isn't something you're going to need when you start, a vortex will do more than fine.
