Is there a lot of smoke? or barely any?

u gotta get more specific about your initial setup

also check your pipe for any leaks, make sure your purge is setting

and finally make sure u got enough holes and enough heat

have you checked for leaks? Before putting the bowl on, put your hand over the top of the stem and do a test pull on the hose. There should be no leaks coming from the purge/hose port/base...meaning your palm would get sucked in slightly. Good luck.

Some times too many holes in your foil will create too much air flow and 'thin out' the flavor.
Thats how I feel atleast.

It really is pretty hard to say without more info. Everything above is great advice though. Are you getting a decent pull? Meaning, how hard is it to suck air/smoke out of the hose?

The pull is like just sucking with out a hose just like sucking air in, my holes in the foil are toothpick size and spaced maybe 1cm apart, the flavour i last did was al fakher strawberry, and i had 2 coconaras on a standard bowl, one thing tho is when i take the foil off to clean the bowl, the tobacco is burnt and all clumped together, am i putting too much it,,,... i have done hookahs all over the spot, and mine NEVER seem to be the same =/ also i will post pics or a vid 2morrow, cheers everyone

What you want to do is get the flavour and put it in a plate. Only a little bit and start to remove stems and make the flavour fluffy. Flavour sticks together which causes clumps. The fluffier it is the better air passing through it. Sprinkle flavour in. Don't worry of you go a bit above the rim the trick is to never compress as long as it's fluffy and isn't soaking with juice then it should be fine. Double foil and put it over your ***. Now start by making holes on the outer edge make a circle of dots. Depending on your bowl you should space them out. Not too far not to close. If your using a toothpick do not poke it all the way down ok. Then start making a inner circle of holes. Eventually your *** will get to the middle here you make one hole.

I never used the coconaras. I always used swiftlight. Okay so with your coals make sure they are hot red ! If they are not. Then not enough heat. Use two and put them on opposite ends so that heat is coming from both sides. Make sure you washyour hookah and bowl. The hose should be dried. Best thing is to leave it out and let fresh air kill bad odour in it. After this take long draws do not draw too hard this might cause flavour to burn.

This is what I do. My shisha tastes better then any shop. You should always try to get the flavour from the bottom as it's the most wet. By you putting it on a plate and ftaking out bits and fluffing it out. You shall be able to get great shisha.

Strawberry horrible. I must always mix my flavours
and have found bigger cut flavours give better results. That is why I never buy af in small packages. I always buy 1kg

Move the coals closer to the center, or throw a third one on and watch it closely. That did the trick for me on my egyptian.

Got a new, larger, mod bowl yesterday. I had the coals about where yours are and got nothing. Moved them closer and it smoked great. Coals died out, got two more going and put on the opposite side. Great smoke!

Ross,

I had a very similar problem to the one you are describing. I found that the advice that has been given already: Add another coal and move them towards the center definitely solved the problem for me.

the picture of the packed bowl you posted looks to high for alfakher, lower it a bit, you want the shisha below the rim, you do not want the foil to touch the tobacco at all, two coco naras should be more than fine for a bowl that size, make sure the cocos are red glowing hot, you might want to use a wind cover for the heat up and to start, if you dont have one make one out of the small size Folgers coffee can, make alot of good size holes in it with a drill the can is about 4 inch dia, by 6/7 inches tall.

Maybe try less heat and try a windcover.. I found that helps coax out a bit more flavor without scorching the shisha.
