Default 4 holes in bottom of stem?

I have a one hose Hookah with a purge valve.

Does anyone know why there are 4 holes in the bottom of the stem?

Thanks.

probably a universal blank for 1-4 hoses, the other holes just aren't connected because there are no hose ports above...

If there are four holes at the base of the stem that goes in the water is located. It is called a common chamber. Meaning the heart of the hookah is hollow and the hose port and purge valve use the same holes. If they were seperated and the heart was solid it would be called a traditional chamber.

IMO and experience common chambers are ok, but dont purge well at all and can rust up easily and quickly. If you have the chance to go with a traditional chamber hookah. I highly recomend doing so.

thats not necessarily true about the holes and common chambers.

some wholesalers have the the stems shipped here without the heart internals installed (usually copper refridgerator tubing) to save on shipping weight. They put the tubing in here.

Actually the holes are on the bottom of the stem that sits atop the vase, not in the water.

The hookah purges real quick, I'd say about two seconds?
Then the smoke comes right back on the first puff.

Thanks,
I don't plan on using it long enough for it to rust out if it is a common chamber as I am already looking for another hookah.
