Exclamation Help! Stem fitting into base issue

I just got a new Heart of Lion KM in today and while trying to assemble everything, I found that I couldn't get the stem to fit into the base... It goes about halfway in and that's about it. I tried running hot water over the rubber to see if that would help, but no success there. Do you guys have any suggestions?

It won't fit at all? For a solution many will sand down the grommet to make it fit. You can oil the grommet as well but it can be a real pain to get out and be dangerous for the glass.

For a better solution I use expandable silicone grommets for my KM. Two stacked on top of each other. Cheap and very adaptable.

this is a good thing, it ensures an airtight seal.

take off the grommet and run it under some warm water. then make sure the inside part of the neck is wet as well. put the stem on top then twist it down until you get the stem in the base.

i've had 2 KM's with the same problem. but be careful, you don't wanna rip the grommet. and if it really doesn't want to fit, try using sandpaper.

I got the grommet off the stem and ran it under hot water for a minute or so. Then I placed it back on the stem and gave it another go. It went in a about halfway.. but still not completely in.

I guess the next step is to try oiling it up or sanding it down.

I had the same problem with my KM double pear... REALLY snug fit, unlike my other KM... I suggest buying a different base grommet...

mine was doing that and i cut some of it off just enough to get an airtight seal and for it to go all the way

I am going to try a size 29 grommet, as opposed to the size 30 one it came with. Hopefully this one will will still be tight, but easier to place into the base.

You could also take some sandpaper and sand it down a little bit as well to get you a better fit.

Yeah, I'll try that if all else fails. Thanks for the help.

I had that problem too. With my tri-metal. Just ended up putting the grommet on my cordless drill and put some sand paper to it.

I once used oil and that works great, but taking it out is a huge pain. IMO sand it or get a new one.
