Default Coals + Fire Detector = ?

I just moved into a small one bedroom flat, and it happens it be a bit small. My living room contains my kitchen on one side of a wall, and I was wondering if I could set off the fire detector lighting Nat Coals on a stove? Or blowing massive clouds under the detector set it off? I am not sure what type of detector it(its pretty old, and against my lease to remove of modify it), or should I continue to light them outside on a coil burner?

Any info is much appreciated, and hopefully I don't set this damn thing off.

Similiar situation, the alarm did go off with CH nats, but not with CCNs. I just use my coil burner near a window with it cracked now (winter, or it would be wide open). But if your alarm is one of those super attached ones I would just light outside. If it's a little disc, I just took mine off, I don't know about my lease.
Oh and I don't think the smoke clouds will set it off.

I have actually been in a place with the kitchen and everything all close. The fire detector was literally about 5 feet from where we were all blowin smoke like crazy. It did not go off but we may have just been lucky. On the other hand, at a house where the detector was close to where we were lighting nats on the stove, it went off like mad. Like the previous post, some might set the detector off or not.

I've been around a few different smoke detectors that have went off because of either hookah smoke or coal smoke, but just as long as nothing is directly under it you should be fine. If you're still worried I would us a windcover to help reduce smoke in the air. For the most part it seems like they don't go off.

I guess the only way to find out is try it, its the old puck style ones, so its to old to be a CO detector.

Thanks for the replies

CH Ql's use to set off my alarm all the time, so I started lighting those outside. As for hookah smoke it will not. I have had three hookahs with about 8 to 10 people smoking in a small room and the alarm never went off.

I light my coals (coconaras) and smoke in my bedroom, with the door shut. And with the window open or closed it has never went off. I live in a newer home though, so i am not sure if that would make much of a difference.

If you don't feel like going outside, but do not want to set it off, you could always tape a plastic bag or something over it.

My friends, while in a hotel once, stuck a sock over the fire detector. It worked, you should try it.

What I do is wrap detector with a tape, works, but if police or fire Dept would see it, you're in trouble

We have no issues with smoke detectors, lucky too, we have a deaf person one, DO NOT want that to go off... ever.
