Default Don't knock noobs..

So I just smoked a bowl of soex out of my cheapo pumpkin hookah using quicklite coals. (Yes, I'm a noob, but at least I have the knowledge to know it.)

I plan to upgrade to a nice 'real' hookah in the future, but at the moment, I'm stuck with this not-too-great setup. I've smoked great brands out of great hookahs, so I know that my current inventory isn't the best.

However...

It was actually a pretty good smoke. The flavour was quite mellow, but came through well, the smoke was as white and cloudy as I have seen from videos using better brands, and my coals kept this consistent for about an hour. It was actually a pleasant surprise.

The moral of the story- don't be too hasty to get snobby about hookah brands; some of the time you can have a really excellent smoke with them, despite their reputation.

On the other hand, every other smoke I've had out of that hookah has been godawful. ah well. make of this post what you will, I'm still reeling from the shock.

P.S, the only occasion when it is OK, even right to be snobby about hookah is with Ed Hardy shisha/hookahs. (Although with Ed Hardy it's ok to kill anyone who's using it, thinking about using it or knows someone who uses it, so don't worry.)

We all started out somewhere! I remember starting my hookah and it tasted like crap for just about everything I tried. You are doing the right things if you are getting Soex to taste good out of a small hookah. So keep up the great work!

Welcome to the Hookah Pro Community .. by the way!

Cheers!

I agree can't hate on the not so popular brands. I think you said it though, their just not consistent like other ones.

I think you have to get lucky and buy a good batch of the cheaper stuff to get it going well.

Most IMO dont throw money out hoping it will be so they spend a few more dollars on better, more consistant brands to get what they want... in the end, to each his own.

Smoke what you have and don't worry about what your smoking it out of if you only have cheep hookah right now who cares. As long as your enjoying it I think that is the most important part of hookah. Just sit back a relax .

Like Samb said "we all start somewhere" and I started out not even knowing that moassel got smoked out of a narghile! Yep, I was a bigger noob then just about anyone here but I can laugh about it anyways.

Try out different stuff, talk to the tons of smart people here and eventually you'll figure out how to have a session a hundred times better then what you think is pretty good now. Who knows, one day you may find yourself smoking traditional black style moassel and fondly recalling the days when you thought Soex was good Stuff!

I like what you said here towards the end. I think that much of the appreciation for this practice evolves as you experiment and continue to try new things. I've had those exact thoughts that Hajo described at the end. I remember smoking Hookah-Hookah out of my Mya Mini and loving every second of it. I spent a lot of my first year lurking around on this forum reading about all the different experiences people have had and gradually coming to appreciate the types of tobacco that I enjoy today.
