Proper Hookah Cleaning

Hey everyone.

I would just like to know the proper way to clean a Hookah. Am I able to put it in my dishwasher and if so, what settings should I put it on?

lolll that made me laugh, has anyone tried the dishwasher there are some great vids on here that can point you in the right direction bud.

I've used a dishwasher before to clean my base and bowls when I'm too lazy to clean them by hand.. There's posts here on how to clean a hookah.. But here's my method.

Base- fill with 95% water, 5% lemon juice, and sea salt. HOT WATER to dissolve the salt. Stir and let sit for a half hour or so..

Stem- Plug down stem. 95%water, 5%lemon juice, and a pinch of sea salt. Shake vigorously.

Purge valve and hose port- Run hot water and lemon juice through them.

This is an intense deep cleaning.. I do about twice a month in my bathtub.

"little" cleaning after smoke usually includes running water through the stem and rinse out the base.

Could baking soda be used instead of sea salt?

Yeah sure. I've heard other people use that. I never have myself.

I wouldn't use sea salt because its prone to cause rust. Lemon juice and baking soda when mixed to a paste make a good cleaner for a deep clean. I don't do this very often because in between sessions I clean with water and stem brushes between each session which helps keep the flavor buildup down and the debris to a minimum.
