unfortunately it smokes like crap
little or no flavor and a very harsh smoke , i used a vortex bowl saw to it that the shisha was only filled upto where the middle thing rises ,
also i use soex quicklight coals
it takes 2 coals to get started on my vortex and the shisha burns out in 25mins

if you can get em try using some coco nats, and are you packing in the bowl tightly or are you lightly sprinkling in the tobacco, what type of foil are you using, heavy duty or regular? if regular your gonna want to use a double layer of foil if heavy duty a single layer is fine. and where are you placing the coals, dead in the center or around the edge? try and leave em towards the edge of the bowl to ensure the tobacco does not burn

Get a different coal .. a natural one.

Setup your hookah so there is just a little space between the foil and the top of the tobacco, not too much. Just a tiny cushion of air. Then put your FULLY LIT coals on top and let it SIT for 4 minutes. THEN try smoking it.

Ayam Zaman is very good, don't rush putting your quicklight coals on it! That is the problem.

I think Samb and Cmoreno have it right. Natural coals are the way to go, but I think I can understand your plight. If you can get your hands on some natural coals, that's the way to go. If you can't, however, just make sure that they are completely ashed over. Ones that aren't can give you a headache and make your tobacco just taste overall crappy. As for the foil, double up your layers of foil, my friend. That should help it from burning as easily, as the foil sags down on top of the tobacco when you do that. The vortex bowl can kind of be finicky, I've noticed. You will get it eventually. I have never had Ayam Zaman, I can't afford it, but hopefully you will get it right and it will smoke beautifully for you. Good luck!

Because in general QL's suck. You don't notice that they give off a nasty taste until you use natural coals, then switch back to QL's. IMO QL's should be used only in cases where lighting a natural is nearly impossible.
