Default My First Hookah Experience = Nightmare

Ok guys and girls as you know I got my very first Hookah this morning and I was buzzing.

I unpacked everything from it packaging and made a short video showing you guys and girls everything I had recieved.

After finding that no instructions came with the Hookah I decided to seek help from this forum where boomhauer invited me to the chat room.

After a while of mistakes here and there I finally got my rig constructed and now it was time for the packing of the bowl.

When I opened up my golden goals they were just a crumbly mess and was breaking everywhere but I still decided to put them on top and try and have a smoke. I had no foil in the house so I used my metal plate that had come with my hookah.

Well the coals wasn't burning proplerly and the ash was now all mixed with the shisha and had become an awful mess I had ash all my over desk and I was getting no smoke at all but I was getting a slight taste and not a very nice one.

I then decided that these coals were no good so I decided to pack up my smoke and wait till I get some better coals.

I then took my Hookah to the bathroom to close it down and give it a wash. My cat came running in and knocked it all over with the coals still in the ash tray and the whole rig came crashing down and fell apart and burnt my bathroom carpet real bad

In the panic to save the carpet and my hookah and preventing a fire I grabbed everything I could quickly and burnt my fingers really bad and now they are all swollen with blisters and painful as
and my hookah base is scratched like mad (all the red coming off + ash tray is dinted)

I have just dried and packed everything into my free carry bag and I feel really upset my first experience with my hookah has been a real nightmare and I feel totally gutted

That is quite a horror story. Never under any circumstances should you touch lit coals. Dumping water on the floor makes more sense but I know that these things happen. Please wait until you get some decent coals before trying again and be sure to use your tongs when lighting them. I have never had much luck with screens so i'd recomend waiting until you have some foil. As long as the base isn't cracked or chipped it will work just fine so don't worry about the finish because it's just a matter of time until it wears off anyway. While a dented ashtray is annoying as long as it fits on the rig it should be no problem. Also, you can another ashtray for cheap from several vendors.

I hope you feel better soon, take care of your fingers and give it another careful try when you're ready.

Dude, that sucks .. and I want to offer the same advice others have offered ... "DON'T GET DISCOURAGED!"

Take a look again at my videos. This one in pareticular ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_BCJ1xOQTE "Beginners Guide To Setup A Hookah"
... for the quicklight coals ... when you take them out of the roll, you want to unwrap the roll enough so that the coals come out easily, so that you don't break them. You can hold them int he tongs and light them. But for a more unified lighting process, I stick mine on the stove and crank on the fan to suck up the smoke that they produce when lighting (which is really not that bad, at least for the "golden quicklights".

You will get it T! Just takes a little learning and patience ...

Cheers!

too bad you are not in london unless i'd teach you to prepare it dmc style "not with gravy "

and yeah that coal screen sucks ass because of ashes going into the tobacco, but hey, dont stop trying, you learn from mistakes :

I'll have to agree with everyone else dont get discouraged.

The day I got my hookah I threw the base into the freezer to chill the water and I forgot about it and it cracked and shattered minutes later.

ahhh so thats why you never came back in chat, we waited but nothing happened. dont worry about it mate, little trouble here and there but you will get the hang of it. one of the first things i did when i got my hookah was somehow lose a small coal which was lit and rather than it go onto the floor it blew onto my sisters leg and she didnt know. 1 minute later she had a quarter sized hole in her favorite jeans and a nasty burn. she cussed at me and so on but hey she survived. just remember dont panic and practice. i think during shipping your coals got banged up a lot so most all of them are bad so your going to have to get new ones. hit up diego (dmc) for where to buy some closeby or for a good uk based site.

Thank you very much everyone for your support.

In a few days when I have some better coal and some time I will set it back up and have a second go at smoking my Hookah.

It was a very crazy day with my Hookah being bruised lol on it's first time but things can only get better

Thanks again

Damn, that sucks dude. But don't worry, we've all been there at least once before. Everyone stumbles at the begining, you'll get better with experience and patience. Patience is one of the most important things when you're in the learning stage of smoking hookah.

In all honesty, I wouldn't blame the crappy session on the coals. I would blame it on the metal screen. I've found that metal screens cause the session to be harsh due to the fact that the holes are way too big. I use Golden Coals for every one of my sessions, and they don't taste bad at all. They actually taste no different than the Exotica natural coals. I've done back to back sessions recently, and have found that there's no noticeable difference between one and the other.

My girlfriend said the same thing. She couldn't notice any difference in taste whatsoever. So I think it's safe to say that Golden Coals are pretty bad ass for a quicklight. For your next session, make sure you have foil and try again with all the advice you've learned here. I'm sure it will be a much better session next time.

Wow that sux!

I recommend just sticking to regular foil and not the screens unless the screens have smaller holes.

What kind of coals were you using?

he was using golden coals - seriously great coals! but the problem was because they came in bad condition because they had to be flown from USA to UK.
