Talking Hole punching patterns...

Hey guys,
I want to know if their is a strict method or pattern you like to use when punching holes in your foil and if so, why that way?

Hole patterns really don't matter too much. Usually I just make rings with a toothpick, holes spaced maybe 1/2cm apart or less and I stop when I get to the middle. If you make bigger holes, you need to increase the space between them. It's not an exact science though.

I have just seen alot of different styles that people use and wondered if one was better than another. I have seen it where it looked like someone punched holes with their eyes closed, where someone put 4 individual sections of holes that matched the exact shape of their charcoal, and some that leave about a 3/4inch un punched circle in the middle of the foil....so I was just a little curious on that.

ok thanks guys...It was just something that caught my eye. I bought a vortex bowl from john with some starbuzz blue mist and wanted to make sure that I know what I am doing when it gets to my door ; ) So for the vortex leave a circle in the middle...good deal

I dont find patterns really matter as long as there even and you have proper air flow. I do find that differnt tobacco calls for a different amount of holes.
Tangiers tones of holes.
Starbuzz meduim amount of holes.
Nahkla small amount of holes.

Lightbulb Re: Hole punching patterns...

SO would the number of holes for different tobaccos be due to the different degrees of wetness/amount of glycerin? More holes for drier tobacco and fewer holes for extremely wet tobacco?

How about a phunnel. Do you punch holes in the spire? or do you leave that aprt with no holeslike you would for a vortex?

With a vortex, I find it's preferable to use a whole bunch of pin-sized holes around the very edge of the bowl. Usually, two rings are enough. This, way more air is forced to travel through and over the surface of the tobacco, which means more smoke and less wasted, uncooked shisha. That's just the theory, anyway.

I usually just do 3 sets of circles starting with the outer rim. Works everytime..

This is with a vortex and a funnel

yup i do the same with funnel 3 rings leave the middle un-punched to be sure the the air has to flow over the tobacco to get to the middle and down.

yup 3 rings of holes is about the generic way to make your hole pattern, but i honestly say that you play around with the holes on your own, see what works for you what you like and what cooperates with what brand of shisha your smoking

I've done a bowl for the girlfriend before and put I love you in it. I really don't care about the hole pattern. I've done fancy ones that take me like 3 minutes to do and done the eyes closed go wild method. Either way works. To me holes are just a way to ensure enough air flow. So if it smokes who gives a shit what the pattern is.
