Default noob question..how many coals?

so i'm a total noob and i've tried this a couple times but i am not able to get the same smoke at home that you get a the hookah lounges...

i am using quicklight charcoals...3 kings...and i have an egyptian bowl..
what is the perfect number of coals i should use?
should i start of with one and add the others after a certain period of time or should i start of with two or three coals right away?

I actually start with 3 to jump start but as soon as the flavor and smoke get good I pull one coal off to make sure I don't burn it. I also use a wind cover which seems to help keep the heat nice and even.

yup take one and break it in half, thats the best way to use a QL.. but you should really look into getting natural coals..

I like the larger sized 3 kings QL's, Just one is usually enough for a medium sized egyptian bowl. Cracking it in half is nice if you want to get an even spread, I use a metal screen that fits my bowl perfectly so I don't need to break mine.

All great advice here. Nats will be your best option for the future, but for QL I start with 2 and adjust from there. If it gets harsh take one off and add a windcover. It's one of those things where practice makes perfect.
