Question Anyone ever hear of.....

Hey guys, I picked up a package of coals called "Torch Coal" the coals are square and come 3 to a bar with a silver kind of latex looking "paint" that flakes off as the coal heats up. Was just wondering if anyone has ever used them and what was the burn time....

Those are commonly called Japanese-style coals. They are sold under many different brands and labels, but they're pretty much all the exact same thing..

They're naturals, they light up rather easily and perform well. My only gripe with them is that they don't last long enough, but that's a common complain. Apparently, Eric Tangiers thinks highly of these coals.

Here's an example of Japanese/silver coals

Edit: after a quick Google search, I found out that Torch coals are a Chinese imitation of Japanese coals. This could mean that they're not as good as the "originals", however if you're satisfied with them, I see no reason to stop using them.

I used to use Japaness coals for a while til I started using Cocos. They're good coals, kind of like the medium between quicklites and coconut coals. If they're available locally and coconut coals aren't I would def use them before quicklites.

I have used japanese coals like that. Not my primary but good to have as a back up.
I used exotica finger coals.

Burn time on my japanese coals is approx 30ish minutes per coal.

Silver flints were some of the worst coals I have ever used. It was an abysmal time period in my hookah smoking session.

Thanks guys you gave me all the info I needed. I agree the burn time is very short but for 11 bucks for 60 of them ain't bad vs the quicklites I was using that cost me 8 bucks for like 10.

Thanks again

I know these exact coals, I think they come from china and the names AL Amir. Black box with flames and white witting?

If so they are crap, Don't get hot enough but still manage to burn out real quick. If that's all you can get your hands on I suggest burning 2-3 fingers at once and not breaking them apart

goodluck

i used a box of these because a friend of mine found a box in her house and didnt want her parents to find them (the box showed up from a party of hers?).
they dont last very long, and i had to use 4 when i would normally use 2 CH coals, but a fine backup and they are dirt cheap.
