I honestly think it's for aesthetic appeal and nothing else.

It can't be to better the taste or smoke because there are many undyed shishas out there with great taste and smoke.

It can't be to better the heat management because some of the most dyed shisha have horrible heat tolerance.

Time for some research! I'll be back if I found anything worthy!

I believe that. Tried AF once (Sweet Melon), and it was the only shisha I've burned to-date.

By the way, Nyxxie... really digging that palindrome-type signature.

I think it is for aesthetics, even Ayam Zaman(a more 'traditional' tobacco) has some dye for certain flavors [source: Photolinger review of AZ Melon]. Which seems odd but whatever. For me it's a it of a downer, but it certainly doesn't effect my view on the brand.

Its for looks I totally agree which I dont really mind to be honest. It dosent matter if its purple or blue as long as its good flavor it could be polka-dot.

I'm not sure, but I've been told that as the tobaccos used for moassel can vary so much in color and texture, the dye is added in an attempt to avoid any consternation when comparing like brands and flavors. A "Why is your Irish Creme brown, and mine greener?" kind of thing.

This is a pic of 250g's of Syrian tobacco recently purchased from a small market in Syria 50 miles from anywhere! I was so disappointed to see the nefarious red dye has infiltrated the far corners of the moassel world. It smokes well, though.

Maybe it's a 'Middle Eastern' thing? Kinda like all Double Apple will have anise?

The red dye has never bothered me but I am quite sure they do it so all batches look the same and we don't thank any worse when a tobacco is light or darker than the last pack?
I blew out an old hose from 3 years ago I only used for AF
and the dust that blew out was red!
That's the only time it has disturbed me

@ bassem that does not look like Dye to me could be the coloring of the molasses that was used to make that

Smoke traditional they are not dyed they are Black

Some of the Mizo's are red other are Yellow so mix the two then the result should be Orange

Oh no, Glos. It's a bad picture, it's horrifyingly unnaturally red. But we did get some stuff from a big market in Damascus that's not dyed, it has that beautiful dark caramelized color. My father says that the moassle we bought from the little market was probably dyed by the owner to make it seem like a more commercial moassel. He says he's seeing more and more of that everywhere, the little guys trying to emulate the big guys product. However, I actually found the dyed moassel from the small market to smoke much better then the undyed one from Damascus. Go figure!
