Default Silly question

So my folks are against me smoking inside.
First it was because of the "smell", but I proved to them that once I closed my door they wouldn't be able to smell it.

Now it's because they're afraid I'll start a fire, because I have a couple burn marks on my carpet.
How would I go on proving to them that I won't start a fire?

I never tip the hookah while I'm alone.
I do use a windcover. Also I don't need a coal carrier as I use quicklites, I just leave them on the tray.
They still think that the coal can spark and the spark will light something on fire :/

Show them that cooking dinner on the stove has the potential to start a fire, drying your clothes in a dryer also. I have a piece of fire retardent carpet that I place under my hookah while smoking inside, no more burn marks.

do what I did: when I lived at home, I told my parents that I would be careful while smoking indoors and limit my drinking to no more than a 12 pack each night so I won't get too drunk and knock stuff over clumsy like Gerald Ford.

Yeah, my carpet does have some burn marks, but they're minimal and I'd prefer to keep it that way :P

Fact is, the coals usually aren't hot enough to create ignition. They'll make stuff smoulder and melt, but actual ignition requires a significant amount of heat, oxygen, and volatile, combustable fuel. If you dropped a coal on the carpet and then fanned it for several minutes, it might get hot enough to ignite your carpet, but it's unlikely.

They claim that a spark can jump off the coal and bury itself in my carpet, then a small breeze can ignite it... >_>

You could make a hookah table, that way it will be able to catch any thing that falls off and/or put an old towel/blanket/carpet square/rug underneath so it will add another layer of resistance.

Get a big metal tray to put your rig on, And light coals in a separate containers - I use a ceramic cereal bowl lined with 3-4 layers of foil. I set it on the window and the breeze makes the coals red hot. I also only light one coal. the quicky place the others on top. . put it outside and close the window - no chemical smoke for me !

Be thankful that your parents let you smoke at home even if it is outside.

@Kelsey, don't get me wrong, I am thankful.
It's just boring smoking outside, I'd rather smoke inside with the TV or the computer :P

I know, just joking
If I can't smoke inside I wouldn't smoke at all. It's all about seeing those clouds and making rings for me.
Good thing I live alone, I'd never be allowed to smoke at home.

have a long hose that reaches from outside into your room. Likewise, have another hose to exhale that smoke back outside.

i would like to point out a common fallacy... coals are hot enough to start a fire... once i thought the coals were done and brushed the "ash" in the trash can..walked away.. smelled smoke.. came back and my rubber trash can was on fire....there wasnt any aeresol cans in there either.. the coal hit paper and the trashcan was on fire... learn from my mistake and dont assume it wont start a fire....my suggestion would be to get an unflamable platfort to set your hookah on... glass pane.. metal pane... something flat and broad so that no matter if your hookah knocks over or not the coals will no reach the carpet... just my idea

cheers and gl
