It cools the whole stem. Its pretty incredible smoke. It is definantly different cooling from teh ice bucket versus ice in the stem.

I dunno.... :P
See, hookah smoke after you pull just doesnt disapear, it sits in every part of the hookah. The smoke sitting in the stem will cool, but only in-between pulls. It will not cool on the way down, while moving, that's impossible. Ice isn't cold enough to cause that kind of heat transfer that quickly.

When you have ice in the base however, the smoke is pulled directly through very low temperature water. Also, the density of that amount of smoke is spread out into bubbles, therefore the ice has to cool much less smoke all at one time; each bubble is cooled quicker than a large volume of smoke.

In the Stem:
1. The smoke is all one large dense mass. Also, only the smoke on the outside of that mass will cool a tiny bit, if at all. The middle of the mass stays warm.
2. When being pulled, the smoke running across the surface of the metal is moving too fast to be cooled. The ice isn't cold enough to actually effect the smoke while in motion.
3. The only way the smoke can be cooled is if it is stagnant inside the cold stem.

In the Base:
1. The smoke mass is divided up into tiny bubbles, so the ice has less amount of smoke to cool.
2. The smoke is directly touching the ice/ice water.
3. The icy cool vapors from the ice/ice water will cool the smoke sitting inside the base that has already passed through the ice water.

I don't think dry ice vapors are too good too inhale. I've seen people pass out from dry ice smoke machines.
ANd it could freeze your lung tissue, which of course is as bad as it sounds. Same with your mouth and throat.

You don't want frostbite inside your body, outside is bad enough.

dry ice in the base is like inhaling CO2
you could put it outside the base if you wanted to though
you could make a box made out of dry ice
but in the base...
you'd F* up your smoke.

Using dry ice in your rig is a great way to kill or cripple yourself. It's stupid if you have anything else in mind. A kid killed himself doing that a few years ago.

Some bars buy what ever they can get a good deal on and while they rarely buy crap they know that their customers are not too aware of what makes for a good narghile and the truth is that how good a session is is primarily a result of how good you are at set up. I'd suggest a Syrian from furat hookahs, J & R or Social Smoke. Other then that I'd say stick with a KM, MZ or El Ashrey.

The hookah lounge by my house sets up customers with Myas. They also stock and rent Syrians as well as different types of Egyptians, but they always seem to rent out the Myas for some reason. I personally have had great success with Mya. I own a 30 inch Mya Column, and it's the best hookah I've ever smoked out of (even afer trying/owning the others mentioned).

If you're interested in a Mya, I suggest you look for options north of $120. Their cheaper offerings just don't compare in performance to the taller ones. And you will problaby be dissapointed, like others have been. This is why I suggest spending the higher price tag on one of their premium models.

If you're not looking to spend that much though, then you can go with a quality Syrain or Kahlil Mamoun like others have said. Many members of this forum have had great outcomes from buying Syrians and Kahlil Mamouns alike. They're also considerably cheaper. Look around the review section for more opinions and experiences on different brand/types of hookahs...

All great choices! I don't think you would go wrong with any of them! I think the Fifa stem looks pretty cool!

You are partially correct. The ice bucket near the top of the stem actually cools the WHOLE stem all the way into teh water and cools the water as well. trust me, I have one and it works amazing. So the smoke is cooled from the top of the stem all the way through the water with an ice bucket on the stem such as a KM Parad-Ice. I speak from experience, I have a Starbuzz Parad-Ice and have tested it.

Absolutely, the ice bucket combined with ice water in the base would provide even more cooling then just ice water in the base. It is obvious in scientific nature ... metal conducts, therefore the cold ice in the ice bucket would travel down the entire stem, plus the ice water in the base would travel up the stem. Combined, it should provide for one heck of a cool smoke!

FYI - I would NOT suggest putting Dry Ice into anything even remotely airtight with water. I was watching Mythbusters last week and they were making Dry Ice 2 lt water bombs to create waves. It caused a real nice mess.

I would be very worried that if the Dry Ice vapors/gases couldn't escape fast enough from your base jar, it may cause an explosion - sending razor sharp glass, water and dry ice everywhere. And this would be IF the sevrer temp changes didn't CRACK the glass of the base outright!

As to the Hookahs you were looking at, any of them seem nice. IMO - I would skip the ice bucket @ the top unless you like the Look of the bucket on the stem. I wouldn't dare put the ice up there... only in the base itself.
