Default foil question, shiny side down?

Whats the difference between doing it shiny side up or down for foil when packing your bowl? Will it effect anything?

I was taught shiny side down is better as it conducts heat better, but i just do it out of habit now more then anything, and think it doesnt make much of a difference

Shiny side down; when the shisha is heated the shiny side will reflect heat better back onto the shisha keeping it hotter.

This doesn't really make sense to me. Shiny foil reflects light not heat. I don't think that shiny foil down will reflect heat back down. There really shouldn't be a huge a difference between the conductive properties of the different sides of the foil.(not trying to argue here, just never heard this before)
OT: I use two layers of foil and out of habit I put the first one shiny side down and the second one shiny side up. Just habit at this point not sure if there really is a noticeable difference between the sides of the foil.

light creates heat.

Just like when I used to burn ants with a mirror when I was a kid.

The difference in reflectivity of the two sides is in the single digit percentages. Reflectivity only affects heat transfer by radiation which has very little effect when talking about charcoals used on hookahs. IOW, it doesn't matter which side you use. The only time it would matter is if you are using non-stick foil for some reason, in which case put the dull side down.

Call me paranoid but I always use shiny side down on both layers for really juicy tobacco's, and do 1 dull 1 shiny on low heat tobacco's. Works for me.

I have had the experience that it makes no difference whatsoever. At those high tempereatures that coals produce, I think it has no effect...

I would say Shiny side down for when you cook and roast food in foil you use it shiny side down witch helps the heat reflection (infrared heat waves)

so the heat from the tobacco will be reflected back to the tobacco helping to get an even cooking of the tobacco.

Just my 2c worth

It's a minor byproduct of the manufacturing process. It won't make any noticeable difference either way. If anyone claims otherwise I would bet that it's psychosomatic.

Flat side absorbs heat. Shiny side reflects heat. Shiny side down means more heat in the bowl

The shiney side up or down makes so little difference in the context of hookah smoking that it really doesnt matter.

There is no special coating, its just part of how the foil is made. You can flip it either way and it'll do the same damn thing, shiney side down *might* give you a bit more heat, but nothing substantial.

Technically not, they're just different expressions of energy... But there's no light in the bowl to create heat anyway. I don't think the difference would be noticeable but I do shiny side down as well just because it's "the way things are done." Maybe next time I'll do it the other way to see how it smokes.

When I make my tinfoil hat I keep it shiny side out and this is generally accepted to keep bad things from infiltrating your brain.
