Default US News/Coals?

I was reading our new US News that came recently. There is a new Article just about hookahs. It mentioned the very cliche "100 cigarettes" metaphor, of course, but also the Carbon Monoxide production. The article i am going to post is not the new one, but is relatively new. Only in this article, they say, in a very offhand remark "Hookahs, which are similar to the *Bleep* used to smoke "edit your post or you will be banned, we do not talk about smoking anything but shisha in a hookah", have grown in popularity in recent years." Was that really necessary? It almost sounds like an attack, doesn't it?

Anyway... Back to Carbon Monoxide. I have never really thought about this aspect, but it is very true. You inhale a huge amount of Carbon Monoxide each session, and that in no way can be OK for your brain. It's like getting Carbon Monoxide every single time you have a session.

This is just from the coals themselves, not from any other part of the hookah.

They need to find a way to make a clean burning coal, or at least much cleaner. That would greatly diminish the most hazardous consequence involved in hookah smoking.

Yeah I understand about the CM. I wish someone can cook up a successful way to light up your hookah without using any coals. But, it seems pretty much impossible now. If a new way came out to light up the hookah, it would cut off so many health risks in a snap.

i hate it when people write about how hookah is 40 times worse than cigs, nicotine wise
for what i know, they're not.
and if someone figured out a way to heat it without coals, they'd be rich.

Carbon Monoxide is really prevalent in the quick lites but im pretty sure in the natural coals market your a lot safer. Just to make a note too your breath in way more carbon monoxide driving around in the city than you would from hookah any day.

The issue of Carbon Monoxide is a tough one because it varies dramatically with the coal used, how well it was started, how tall your stem is, how often and how deeply you inhale and a bunch of other stuff that is pretty complicated. The simple truth is that given the laughably bad and wildly biased stuff that basses for smoking research these days anything regarding tobacco use needs to be examined very carefully by someone that actually knows something about empirical methodology and the history of tobacco research. The 100 cigarettes in a bowl thing is hysterical crap that should be seen as much by anyone that thinks about the subject rationally for a few minutes but I could get into specifics if anyone want me to. The other truth is that very little research worth reading has been done regarding narghile use. Lastly, the mass media takes an exceedingly complicated subject which the writers/editors know nothing about and reduce it to sound clips to suit general prejudices, fads and the biases of the owners/editors so reading about health research in a popular magazine is pointless.

In the end if you are concerned about CO and carbon monoxide you should limit your sessions to no more then an hour a day, use only fully lit natural coals and don't inhale because your lungs don't have taste buds and can't appreciate texture anyway.

i dont see why they have to mention dog food and dog food waterpipes. its only going to further the false notion of the hookah being a tool for non tobacco use.
