Default Apple and Anise... but Why?

I love nahkla apple and I like double apple nahkla and af. But I was wondering why is there a anise flavor... dont get me wrong I like it, I was just wondering why there is a anise flavor put into apple flavors. Who is the master mind behind this flavor combo? Was it on purpose? And Why dont other fruits come with anise flavor? I find this whole anise business very curious.

It seems to me that when processed into tobacco, Apple developes an anise flavour to begin with. At least the red apple does. Layalina Apple Bahraini tastes slightly like Anise but mostly like red apple so I don't think they added any anise, it just came to the tobacco naturally.
I'm just guessing here though, I'm not sure....

Traditional, There's apple tobacco and then the people wanted something different... so they added in the flavor of a popular spice.

Nah, I wouldn't think that they would use a tobacco that has strong natural flavors like that, it would most likely be too expensive. DA sometimes sells for less than the other flavors.

Well I dunno, seeing that most of the apple's flavor is in the peel, they might just use leftover appple peels from an apple juice factory or something and make molasses outta that....

That's something I would expect a higher end, much smaller operation tobacco to do, and I bet there is a place that does just that! But the large companies are mainly about mass production - for instance, I am fairly sure at one point AF DA tasted like apple at least a tiny bit... but over the years quality control was lost.

haha I just had AF DA for the first time at the local hookah bar and it was straight licorice/anise. Nakhla DA at least tastes a lil bit like apple but AF? Not a trace!

The first tobacco I smoked was Nakhla DA and I used to hate it. Now it's just delicious.... I do think it tastes a little apple-y though

because with out it it would be hard to see who is a fanboy because its impossible to defend the flavor imo. i felt bad when this guy i knew from saudi arabia always smoked my hookah and the one time i smoked his hookah and couldnt do it because the black licorice was nauseating. he had a nice km tho

I really like the AF 2, it's got a good apple flavor as well as a really good anise, but it's not too overpowerful

The apple and anise are both originally from the middle east and central asia. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Apparently in India anise is taken as a digestive aid after meals so what could be more befitting in an after dinner smoke?

I don't get why they don't have a black licorice flavour and make apple/double apple actually taste like apples.
Or they should call it double apple with spice or something like that.
I will never smoke double apple again, worst flavour ever. But yeah I can't wrap my head around why it tastes like that, the makers have obviously never tried an apple before lol.

I love the way ZenSilk totally answered the question five posts in yet you're all still wondering about it.

Yeah but I doubt that they just decided to add Anise to ALL apple flavours. Well, with a couple of exceptions at least.

Like I said, I have Layaline Apple Bahrani and while it does taste like Red Apple, it also has a faint hint of anise. I wonder if the apple takes on a slight anise like flavor when processed so the companies just added extra anise to bring out that flavor a little more...

This is a good question though. Next question: Where does your lap go when you stand up? :P

I've always thought it was traditional. I do have a question though, has anyone tried an apple flavor with no trace of anise in it? I haven't...
