Default "Hookah Malnutrition"

I was over at a friend's house today smoking some Starbuzz: Blue Mist when this 22" Egyptian 2 hose caught my eye. I asked my friend "Hey, how come this little guy never sees any action." He responded diligently with "Its not mine but, it has been over here for like a month." I responded with a "Well, lets load it up and use both hoses :P." He told me only if I clean it.....so I figured hey why not right 2 hoses would be sick right now because I don't feel like passing while trying to play GH III. I take this lovely looking hookah over to the sink to wash out the base ETC ETC. I remove the base from the stem only to discover a horrid pungent stench. I wanted to discover what could wreak so bad. Turn out that they had milk in the base from their last session and it has been sitting there room temperature for a MONTH. I quickly re-attached the base to the stem and set the poor little guy out on the back porch. Rest in piece little hookah . Has anyone else had an experience like this before? I would appreciate some feedback and some stories

Lol, sure there is. After some of the things I have read on this website I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few who actually did. I smoke mine to often to leave anything in it for more than a couple of hours more or less a MONTH lol. All well I will get my nerve gas mask my uncle gave me from Vietnam and try to clean it again tomorrow

Wow, that truly is disgusting and repulsive. I don't think I would ever smoke out of that hookah unless it was thoroughly washed with lemon juice, baking soda, rubbing alcohol, and vinegar! Several times!

I've got a nasty story too. I used to have this friend (which is the one who got me into smoking hookah) that would never, and I mean NEVER, clean out his hookah after a session. I wasn't aware of this until after many sessions, when one day I decided to ask how he cleans it (cause I was a newbie at the time). He then told me he cleaned it once in a blue moon with a brush and water. This guy wouldn't even use any type of detergent or cleaning agent even after all that time of siting dirty!

He would also leave his hookah in his backyard, on the floor, exposed to the elements 24/7. Possums, cats, and stray dogs were known to be frequent in the area. I honestly don't know how that little Egyptian smoked so good for so many years with that kind of treatment. I get naucious (spelling?) just thinking about it. Of course, once I got ahold of it, I started cleaning it almost daily and taking care of it a lot more than he did. He ended up letting me borrow it and kind of holding it for some time until I bought my own.

The time I had it in my possesion, was definetly that little hookah's best days. So nasty....

Nice story HM. Makes me think of stories of adopting neglected pets. "Who's a good little hookah? You are, yes you are!" LOL

I wash my hookah after every use! With brush, lemon juice and baking soda!

In my newbie days, I may have left it out for a few days, but only with water in the base. And would clean it thoroughly as soon as possible!

Ewww, old milk in the base is just gross! I would have been dry heaving!

Some rubbing alcohol would take the smell and milk mold right out with some nice shaking! Maybe ad some baking soda.

I have found rubbing alcohol to be the ultimate hookah cleanser.

I clean up right after every session. I wash the hookah 1X a week with baking soda, lemon juice and scalding hot water. Sheesh, and people wonder why their hookahs dont last very long.

+1 on that! I tried this the other day, and it worked better than vinegar and baking soda...

You have either a good sourdough bread starter or yogurt.

Dude, that had to be friggen sick as hell. I would of just soaked it for 20 mins, scrubed it, and blown it out with a dust buster. Then I would of thrown the hose away.

Rubbing alcohol is great stuff, but beware. If you have exposed raw metal it can quickly cause components to rust 3x as fast. I use a mixture of things; Vinegar, lemon juice, and medical grade betadyne (surgical scrub). These all have a relatively near neutral pH.

Thats not a really bright idea. Practical, yeah. But you change the temperature of the glass too fast from room temp or chilled, to boiling temp. You can easily cause hairline fractures in the glass or even shatter the base over time. Boiling water makes the glass expand too fast and the outside can't keep up with the expansion of the inside temp.
