I'm going on a fishing trip .. and I packed three hookahs, a few Vortex bowls, and a few Egyptian bowls.

So I think you should have both ..

Yea not to mention the lady that was handling the issue said she would call me by the end of the day 3 times. I ended up calling her back the next day each time and her say i will know by the end of the day and call you. The end result was her leaving a voicemail saying they couldnt do anything about the holes being low but she didnt even mention the fact that one hole is sealed. I gave up on these people on dont plan to order anything other than tobacco from them. Go with Hookah John on a vortex, my friend got one and the holes are much bigger and it looks a little better built.

I like to order my Vortex from the actual manufacturer and Sponsoring Vendor .. SaharaSmoke.com aka HookahHookah.com

I have bought 5 different colored Vortex bowls from them and have no problems with any of them. The holes may be at the top? May be in the middle? But they always smoke like a champ for me

Back to the topic of discussion .. You can't go wrong with a Vortex or standard Egyptian bowl .. those are the bowls I use.

It seems like it would be better for the vortex to have the holes close to the bottom of the spire... Same theory as the scalli mod... pulls hot air all the way through the moassel rather than just across the top.

If you had to choose between the two i would say vortex. but if your willing to spend a few extra dollars (you can even get discount egyptians for like 3 bucks at Hookah-shisha.com) and could go for both

Peace, I live in the bronx on the 3rd. I brought my vortex on st. Marks place in the village for ten bucks. But since I am a nakhla fan I mostly use my egyptians that I get in little egypt in queens. I also get my tobacco there dirt cheap. Not to bash hookah hookah tobacco but I can't stand it I just threw out a jar of peach cobbler flavor. We are blessed to live in NYC I know a place in brooklyn that sells all brass hookahs wholesale.

have you tried nakhla in the vortex, especially if you do a lose sprinkle it up to the rim and then tap it down and flatten it lightly to the top of the spier it smokes really well and doesnt need much heat management, uses a bit more tobacco but you can smoke it a bit longer too

I'm like 20 mins away from there, the old Atlantic yards right? Do you know the name of the store by any chance? I know there's a bunch of arab grocers and delis on the 4th, but never knew they sold pipes.

Yeah, its next door to dunkin donuts. There is another two doors down from there. They have a decent collection of shisha there too. Nakhla Al fakher. Starbuzz and JM. All kinds of accessories also from coconut coals to cleaning brushes.

Why the Crown for traditional? I would have thought that, since they're dryer, egyptian would be the go-to.

Also, jealous of you brooklyn folk...

I concur, I tried it in my vortex as well and 100 grams later I've decided to use my egyptians for nak. It seems fitting the shisha is made there and so is the bowl. At the risk of sounding overly philosophical it may be our cultures (american/european) need to be bigger, stronger, faster that turned the ancients cigars, pipes (ie. war and peace), and shisha into those wicked cigarettes. In the future I will make a conscious effort to leave well enough alone.
