Default To poke, or not to poke?

That is the question. Should I or should I not poke a hole in the middle of a phunnel bowl?

I always do. helps keep the foil from sagging or getting sucked down. people make the assumption that you'll taste the coals...but that makes no fucking sense.

IMO, to much air gets in and diluates the flavor

I've tried both, which if you haven't tried both, your only guessing
I get a better experience with no holes in the middle

Honestly it doesn't make much of a difference. It's not like poking holes over the hole will suddenly create a vortex going straight down the bowl lol It will just create more airflow within the bowl resulting in more smoke.

If your foil is tight and you have enough or make big enough holes around the edge, you won't need to poke one in the middle. The biggest reason the foil gets sucked down is because there's not enough airflow from the other holes.

I usually poke a hole in the center.......As MrBungle said it helps prevent foil from getting sucked down and blocking air flow

I never do, never had to.

The foil on my funnel always rises up when taking puffs but some people don't believe me. I tried to film it with my iphone but it you can't see it too well.

*edit* no mods used

I always poke a hole or a few in the middle. I use a thumb tack so my holes are not big enough for airflow. This helps the foil from being sucked down.

I use a paperclip mod so I don't put a hole in the middle unless I do it by mistake lol

Based on my experience with the Crown Jewel on sunday I would say "no" to holes in the center.

i use my paper clip mod everytime the funnel is used.. so there is no need to poke a hole in the middle.. so NO is my answer.. if you wrap the foil tight enough you don't have to worry about it being sucked down..

I prefer to use a mod of some sort and leave the foil in tact over the spire opening

I don't poke a hole in the centre. I prefer directing the air flow over the moassel. Just make sure your foil is tight and that you poke enough holes around the edge.

Smoke it without holes poked in the middle and if you feel its too restricted you can still do holes while your smoking rather than the other way around
