Default Moving coals around?

I heard that you have to move coals around, but every time I did it, my smoke disappeared or made the smoke hot or made the taste bad.

I was using Large Egyptian or regular cheap bowl, 2-3 coals, sometimes windcover.

Why do people move coals? Is it necessary? What I'm doing wrong?

Thank You

But to me it's different, I enjoy good smoke, descent amount, taste is nice (not perfect) and then I move coals, I get no smoke after and I have to pack a new bowl.

I always move my coals at around a 10 or 15 minute interval to help evenly distribute the heat through out the bowl. I always purge after ashing and changing the position of the coals on the bowl.

nah man it just takes practice. after a while you will just know, "hey i should ash the coal real quick and move it right now".. but yeah every 10 mins or so you should rotate it around, i am not sure cause i never pay super close attention to the intervals. another thing you can do, is if you have too much heat.. is move the coals and leave it hanging slightly off the bowl, or if you have 2 coals and its too much heat set one on top of the other if you don't want to heat up your tray. Another thing i noticed recently is you don't really want to pack the Egyptian at all, just use the sprinkle method.. i switch to this method from the light pack, and the bowl lasted longer for sure, used slightly less shisha. Its kinda sad that i figured out the vortex long before the Egyptian though.. lol.

Also as the coals ash, it creates a gap between the coals and the foil reducing heat. Also on some coals I notice the side on the foil gets completely black as if it went out. A simple ashing of the coals and flip puts the heat right back on the foil where it needs to be. I rotate my coals every 10 minutes or as smoke starts to die off.

i currently use 3 half pieces of 3 king 40mm coals in a triangle partern, around the outside edge of the bowl. ill sometimes puch them inwards as they ash and get smaller. also i tend to rotate when i either ash or been about 10-15 mins to help evenly heat the shisha.

getting a windcover with my next order so heat management could change a bit but prob not much.

I ash my coals after 40-50 min. I find that I also get a harsh smoke after-wards. I discovered that there is a cool spot on the bottom and to put that cool spot back on the bottom not a red hot side of a coal. I hope this makes sense and helps.

I never rotate my coals unless flavor starts dying out.

as with anything hookah, people have different methods. I agree with Nerfherder when i use coconaras, however when I use exoticas i agree with your statement DRMalikia

I rotate my coals out of habit.. regardless of which type I'm using.

I ash them periodically. For example, I notice a pronounced reduction in heat with exoticas when the layer of ash gets thick.

Also, rotate and ash them because you don't want too much ash dropping through the holes in the foil. That'll mess with your flavor and it'll end up tasting like crap until you have to take the bowl off and blow it out.

Finally, I do it to keep the heat even and burn the tobacco equally all the way around to keep the flavor at its best throughout the session.

yeah i forgot to mention when i use the Coconaras i dont ash them as often.. the 40mm QL needs way more ashing. But yeah.. everybody has their own method and will usually stick to their guns saying they are right.. but thankfully respectfully here =D.
