Just the obvious differences, acrylic is not as prone to breaking as glass (even though it might crack under certain circumstances), glass is heavier and looks better, afaik neither effect the smoke (well at least glass doesn't), so it comes down to looks and practicality.

^ listen to the man. He's right.

A couple other points to remember. Acrylic is better for hookahs that will be transported around alot. It's lighter, harder to break, can be dropped (more than glass can), and the occasional party foul won't faze it. Glass on the other hand is a classic staple. It's heavy, won't tip over as easy, usually prettier, and is easier to find.

Mostly what affects your smoke when talking about the base is how much space is left for the smoke after there's water in it. If you put your stem in the base, and fill the waterline up to an inch over the bottom of the stem, how much space is left? The more, the better usually. Makes it harder to get water up your stem, and allows you to have a smoke reservoir aka less harsh, cooler, etc.

I myself actually have a hookah with both a glass and acrylic base. I almost always use the glass base because it:
1. Looks better
2. Is more sturdy
3. has a better shape
It is a hookah i travel with, but i have it in a toolbox, in a piece of foam that i cut to fit it, so i don't have to worry about it breaking. If it does break by chance, i have the acrylic base at home to replace it.

as long as the width of the stem is smaller than the opening of the base, and the downstem length has some space, theres a grommet for that.

that being said, I prefer glass because of the looks and the fact its heavier so more stable for my heavier stems. also ive seen the cheaper acrylic crack.

On a party hookah acrylic may end up being better because of your stupid drunk friends (not specifically you, just...all of us really)

I've tried both and cant seem to notice a difference in smokability. For the most part its the brand that helps to determine how well one or the other will smoke. i personally like glass for the aesthetic aspects

Glass or acrylic bases alone wouldn't determine how well it smoke, you also have to look at hose width and how many hoses. there are a lot of factors that come into play when you are trying to determine how well a hookah smokes. I personally like glass because they are harder to knock over even though they are obviously more sensitive to being dropped but in my experience there is a much higher chance of the hookah being knocked over than being dropped.

QFT, stability is much more important.

Exactly the reason why I've switched my bell vases to ssc's dish ones, they get super heavy when filled with water. I can use my hose as a jump rope and it'll still be good and stable.

A hookah should be made of two things: Glass and metal.

Not necessarily. What about the bowl? And the hose? And the grommets?

Nah, but seriously, acrylic's not all bad, it has its uses but you have to be careful with it just like with glass.
