Default advice for Nakhla

I smoked my first Nakhla (sweet melon) last night and it was good but i didn't get good clouds (not that is a big deal) or alot of taste until near the end. I used two CH Nats and a wind cover packed it like I would AF or DM. So any suggestion before I go for round two.

with nakhla I usually start with 3 coals until it gets good and hot, if you have a wind cover then 2coals with the wind cover would probably give better results. Nakhla can take the heat.

Don't overpack sweet melon, out of alot of nak that you can overpack with great results, sweet melon just doesn't work. I can't find the overpack thread we've had here, but the general consensus was that sm falls short of being good in that aspect, I pack it dense in the vortex, doesn't necessarily have to be below the spire holes, as long as it's below the rim. SM can also take heat pretty well so you might want to experiment with the amount of coals you're using, I use 3 cocos and windcover to start, then either take the windcover off and leave the 3 on or take 1 off and leave the windcover with the remaining 2, you'll just get a feel for it. Good clouds all the time, with pretty much most nak flavors.

EDIT: Wild obviously types faster than my slow ass

I'd pack a little more, and throw on some extra heat. Maybe check to see if everything is airtight too, that could help

I haven't had any problems overpacking Sweet Melon in my phunnels. I just pack the heck out of it and throw the coals to it.

Not enough clouds usually means not enough heat, or that you are pulling a little air from somewhere.. Make sure everything fits together and NO air can come through, and maybe use one more coal...

i usually use 3 ch nats on my nakhla, i have gone more to the vortex though than the egyptian and had much better results with better flavor, smoke, and less harshness with less need for managing coals.

i pack it very very loose and fluffy up almost to the rim and then flatten it out which taps it down to the height of the spire. 3 coals just hanging off a tinny bit, wind cover on a few mins to get it warm and then pull the cover and move the coals as needed. i dont like over packing nakhla, depending on the style of over packing it either changes the taste or doesnt really give much longer smoke while using a lot more tobacco still

I pack my Nakhla a little tight. It takes heat very, very well.

My experience was different, I've tried overpacking sm at least 3 times and all those times it was exactly the same as the normal pack, same flavor, same clouds, just wasted a little more tobacco. And have only experienced this with sweet melon, other nak flavors (for the most part and excluding mizo) have worked with better results when overpacking.

I'd disagree, overpacked or not I am almost always pulling great clouds off nakhla, comparable to af. Check out patelbadboy's vid review of nak fak. mixed fruits, you'll see what I mean.

What 2 apples taste like 2 apples? Basing your decision on 2 flavors, one subpar and one that doesn't appeal to everyone doesn't really say much about the entire brand.
