Default Smoke/Coal Help?

I have two questions.

1: How would I achieve a better smoke. I want really giant clouds.

2: How many coals are recommended on a single bowl? I usually have 2, but I see people use 3 or 1. Usually, my shisha burns a little just on the top too.

Those two questions depend entirely on 3 things, what type of bowl you are using, what type of shisha you are using and what type of coals you are using. It really comes down to proper heat management to bring out the best flavor/smoke from your shisha. People use anywhere from 1-4 coals depending on the type of shisha and what type of bowl they are using. If you are smoking out of a small egyptian bowl you might only need one coal as opposed to the four you would need for a large tangiers phunnel bowl. So basically there is no right answer to that question because it depends on what coals, bowl and shisha you are smoking as they all require different maintenance during the smoking session.

To answer your first question, you will need more holes in the foil and more coals around the bowl.

To answer your second question, you will need to put as much coals as you can that will not immediately burn the tobacco. That depends on how well you pack your bowl. If you fill it up all the way to the top chances are you will be burning the tobacco on the top too much and you wont enjoy it. If you know how to pack your bowl then I've already answered your question. If you are not sure how to pack your bowl "what ever it may be, phunnel, vortex, egyptian, mod, mya" there are many videos on the forums to help you out with that.

To add what other members have said, stay away from crappy quick lights. I have coco-naras and I use 2 coals on a mod bowl and I get some REALLY nice clouds out of my chinese mod hookah and a regular small hose. Another thing is to make sure your coals are well lit

I use two exotica pieces on my vortex bowl. I found that the vortex bowl gave me bigger clouds but that may just be placebo effect

Smoke something with a lot of glycerin added like starbuzz, social smoke, or jm's shisha. Use 2 coals on top and rotate them every 10 or so minutes. Huge, flavorful, playful cumulus clouds.

Start it off around the edges and rotate them. When they get small, you can put them in the middle

Ok, thanks for the input thus far. What I am using are a standard egyptian bowl, SB shisha, and either Fumari coals or gold coal quicklights. I am considering buying a Vortex bowl and some Coco Naras. Even when the top of the shisha burns for me (turns black and crusty), It still doesn't taste bad or get harsh.
