Default Voice?

Okay, I searched the forum for this and didn't find it. Sorry if I just missed it.

Anyways, I was wondering if smoking hookah would have the same effect on one's voice after a period of a few years as cigarettes do?

I have always been a big fan of my guitar and singing, and I have dreamed of having a slight rasp to my voice.

I understand it's sort of a weird question, but valid nonetheless i think.

Don't you get such a voice because of the tar that's in cigs? There is no tar in shisha tobacco.. so if tar is the reason, it won't affect your voice

even though you inhale hookah, you dont aim to inhale like you do with cigs and you dont hold it in like you would. It would take a heck of alot of smoking to get the same results as a cigarette

I think that "smokers voice" is actually caused by the effect of hot smoke on the vocal chords and larynx over years of smoking. Even with this said, tobacco smoke from a hookah is significantly cooler than the smoke from cigarettes so I don't think that you would develop a smokers rasp from hookah. I think the raspy thing works best for writers, as a vocalist you should love your voice!(coming from the theater geek).

I agree. Smokers voice seems to come from the effect of hot smoke which wouldnt be the case with hookah. Hey you could always pick up cigs? haha

Chris Cornell has an awesome voice, idk first thing that comes to mind when you say "rasp".

In any case, I know that it can affect your singing mildly for the next few hours and even into the next day. Not like a christian bale/batman difference but enough for her to care. My girlfriend is an opera singer and won't smoke the day of or the day before she has to sing because it affects her voice just slightly.

Well i'm fine with my voice now. Deep and smooth [take that as sexually as you'd like, ha], but i hear specific voices with a slight rasp and love it. It's not something i would take up cigarettes for [never smoked one, never plan on it], but i decided that it came with a few years of hookah, that would be sweet. However, that seems to be a bit off from the truth, so Im stuck with what i got, which again, I'm fine with.

And slight rasp is NOT chris cornell. haha.

Speaking on raspy voices, has anyone heard Nina Blackwood on XM channel 8??

Not only is it raspy but she sounds like she is gasping for air.

I can't listen to her.
