Default vortex bowl

Just a quick question. How many pieces of ch natural charcoal would be sufficient to get the bowl going nicely? Also should I just punch the foil or go to the bottom of the bowl?

i usually use 3 coals to start out with. when i put on another set of coals, ill put on 2 with a windcover which will be necessary if you want good smoke.

2 and a wind cover treats me very nicely as well. Some tobacco can can benefit from a third coal and requires the extra heat to smoke properly. Very classic stuff usually needs more heat.

three at first then two, its what works best for me, i dnot usually need a wind cover though, and as for the foil before i start i lightly run my finger around the rim of the bowl with the foil on and make a very slight indention, not too deep, just enough to see the rim through the foil if you get what i'm saying

depends on the tobacco. Most of the time i use 3. 2 and a windcover get it going ok, but after about 20 mins its not enough... so i start with three and the coals way on the outside. and move them in slowly.

HH and Hf only need two ever though.

I am with the guys up above. I start out with 3 and a wind cover to get things going and then either drop the windcover *OR* one coal depending where I am. Then I just pay attention to the smoke to tell me what to do next.

I only got a smaller vortex bowl.. 3 coals + windcover is too much for that.. 2 coals, maybe windcover, is enough for me.

three coals hanging off the edge until it is smoking well, then take one off and put two completely on the foil, once the two shrink allot in size throw the third one back on so it is completely on the foil. Sounds complicated but works perfect.

i have perfected this use 3 coals to start it for 5 mins then either keep three on and rotate after 30 mins or take 1 off put the two opposite each other and add a windcover
