Default Smoke Flavor

Hello,

I was wondering if the size of the hookah has and thing to do with the flavor of the smoke you get out of it? Like smaller= more smoke flavor or somthing like that.

Thanks

Well, I have a small 18in hookah as well as a larger 26in hookah. Both of them seem to provide the same amount of flavor. I think the only difference in flavor would be between tobacco's, heat control, and whats in the vase

if you clean your hookah well enough, regardless of its size, the same tobacco won't taste different.
but you can get cooler smoke with an ice chamber

smoke isn't as harsh with a larger hookah (over 24ish inches)

less harsh smoke = more taste IMO

I don't agree with that at all. I have a small 18in hookah and it has never gotten any harsher than my 26in

if you want a ton of flavor you need to invest in a funnel bowl. it will help you with the flavor like no other and makes it last a lot longer too. also putting ice in your vase helps a ton too so try that once and see what you think

I only have on hookah and it's a 22" Egyptian. I get plenty of flavor out of it. Like most folks have said a taller hookah is supposed to produce a cooler therefore smoother smoke. Some folks have said that putting ice in the base reduces flavor. I rarely put ice in the base, just cold water here.

Typically the height is more about cooling the smoke down, which in turn does offer some more taste and easier to smoke, but that's not always true. I have a 22" Egyptian that can out smoke my 29" Engineer Syrian any day of the week.

My 17" modern used to smoke well for it's size, but due the design of the stem/heart - it's a <beep> to clean and not used anymore.

I have been putting ice in the vase everytime I smoke. I think I might try a small funnel bowl.

Thank you for all the help.

Flavor really depends on the quality of the tobacco you use. As long as the tobacco hasn't been sitting out and drying up there really shouldn't be a problem with flavor. If your tobacco is dry, you won't really get much flavor, and/or smoke from your hookah no matter how good it is.

And a tip for putting ice in your base, add some water first, and then add ice, swirl it around your base, and then add more water. If you add too much ice, or if you add ice first, you may run the risk of cracking your base. If your smoking a nice fruit flavor add some sugar in the base to enhance the sweetness of the flavor. Hope this helped.

I never thought of adding some sugar to the water. As for Tobacco I just got it all about two week ago. The brand names for the tobacco is El Nakhla and Al Amir.

Thanks

Hey BigGuy,

Is the tobacco moist or wet at all? If it is, that's a good sign and maybe we can help you get a nice smoke session going. Honestly, I'm pretty sure I lack experience and knowledge of hookah smoking as compared to Sambooka here and the other Elite Members. If you wanna see how to properly set up a hookah, I would suggest watching Sambooka's Set Up Tutorial on YouTube. I've posted the link here.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=k_BCJ1xOQTE

I'm sure you'll have small differences, such as the type of coal/tobacco used, but this is a great way to learn. And if you follow the same steps in tutorial, I'm sure you'll get a great session going in no time. Hope this helps BigGuy. Let me know if you have anymore questions, and I'll do my best to help.

Hey Sambooka,

Thanks! I hope you get a good session going by adding sugar to the base. I got the idea from DMC Mad, while I was on YouTube looking through some hookah videos. In his he also added honey, I only add sugar because I'm too lazy to buy honey. I'll buy some soon though and post a review about it. My favorite so far though is smoking Romman Apple with sugar in the base, it's glorious. Take care Sambooka.

Don't get a QT. You'll just be back at square on with the whole smoking out of a cheap hookah thing. Most other members have horrible stories about using the QT. Although I've never tried a QT, I can vouch for how good Mya's more expensive (read= higher quality) hookahs are. I own one and it's the best hookah I've come acoss. Do it right the first time, and buy a proper Mya that isn't their cheapest offering. Remember, there's a good reason for why a Qt is so cheap, and yet Mya offers other hookahs that range between $120-$200...

You could be lacking flavor for several reasons. But I wouldn't be too quick to blame it on the hookah itself. Most of the time, it's for another reason. I personally love tall hookahs. I don't like or buy small ones. The reason is because in my experience the tall ones hit smoother than the short ones. But, there is still flavor from both. A quality 16 inch hookah can smoke very similar to a 30 inch. It all depends on what type/brand of hookah you're talking about.

If I was you, I'd check how I'm packing my bowls. Maybe try something different, or try different coals. Also the brand of shisha can impact flavor greatly. Some brands don't last long on flavor or aren't all that pronounced. While others are completely in your face flavor, and they constantly let you know they're there. Like I said, it could be many different reasons for which you're not getting flavor. My advice, check the other things first before blaming the hookah itself.

I think with smaller hookahs=Smoke faster but not much flav as a big hookah. They also get harsh easily if you don't watch your heat management

Bigger hookahs-A LOT more smoke and more flavor. The smoke is more cooler while a small one is a bit warmer.
