i have not tried a metal bowl but i would think that maybe the only difference is heat? since metal is more likely to heat up maybe?

Well one difference is heat distribution, different metals distribute heat more or less evenly so it depends on what the bowl is made of. If its copper go for it but if its steel or aluminum i wouldn't bother. I say stick with the clay bowls.

Metal distributes the heat better than clay bowl.. With metal bowls it's harder to manage the heat I think.

Metals like steel and copper (mentioned above) are good heat conductors and will therefore transmit the heat from inside to bowl to the outside air more readily, thereby lowering the internal temperature of the bowl somewhat. Ceramic is a heat insulator so it will maintain more heat inside of the bowl perimeter with less heat loss over the course of a smoke. Smoke happy.

Yeah I was gonna say, if your trying code 69 for the first time and for some god-only-knows-why reason want to switch bowls then i imagine it would be a bit of a pain to do since the bowl would be so hot.

FYI, In the Middel East they use the metal bowls for tumbac (i.e zaghloul) and they put the coals directly on the timbac, no screens or foil.

I actually tried smoking once without using a piece of foil, just put the coal directly on some nak lemon. it was not bad. definitely wayyy thicker, but had this robust quality to it that was actually quite enjoyable in a different manner.
