Default Harshness

I use a 17" Egyptian hookah with a small clay bowl, and i've been using golden quick light coals. It seems every smoke, i get a slight harshness in my throat. Its not a crazy harsh where u cough and its just awful, but it is very unpleasant and unenjoyable. I can't really tell if its harsh smoke or i'm tasting coals. But, i was reading reviews on goldens and people love them and don't taste them. Help please

Try using one coal broken in half and place them on the edges, sounds like you may be getting too much heat

Or try poking less holes in your foil

Two is too much! in my opinion, for a small bowl.
... Try just one coal and rotate it around the bowl. OR you can try one coal and break it in half and put one on each side. Put the coal on the very edges! You could also try adding a windcover to the two halves.
If you are not getting smoke from the two halves, go ahead and add a third half.
Hope that makes sense??

Also, check out a couple of my videos, to see how I poke my holes in the foil. I hope you are using the aluminum foil and not the screen?

are the golden coals 40mm or 33mm?

I always try to start a bowl off slowly, with long slow inhales to warm up the shisha. After about 8 of these, go to medium hits and then larger hits. If the smoke is still thin, add another coal or half.

austin's got a point - 40mm are HUGE coals. I use only 1 of them @ a time on any of my bowls, broken in half and along the outerdge of the bowl. 33m i'd use between 1-1.5 of them and a windcover - easier to take off the cover than fight w/ moving/adding coals.

I'm using foil, im not using a windcover. They are the 33mm and i tried using 3 halfs and it still had a little harsh taste. I'm going to try just one coal broken in half, and put them on the edge and see if it helps at all. Thanks for the tips...i'll keep yall posted.

it is probably too much heat for such a small hookah ive got some that small and smaller and the 17'' i got i only use 3 halves but thats also what a tangiers phunell i would suggest like everyone else 2 halves so one coal total and if thats not enough try maybe 2 halves of 40mm coals

run on sentences are my life.
