combo of tobacco, packing technique, holes in foil, and heat. usually the size of the hookah doesn't change the amount of smoke, only the harshness...

Hey BigGuy,

There are a lot of factors that contribute to how much smoke your hookah will produce. These include, but are now limited to:

1) Quality of Hookah
a) Also the cleanliness of the hookah
2) Number of Hoses
a) Also the cleanliness of the hoses
3) Damage to Hookah
4) Air Leaks e.g. Grommets, Air-Valves
5) Bowl
a) Amount of Tobacco in Bowl
b) Amount of Charcoal used
c) Damage to Bowl

Check your hookah, and let me know some more specifics about the brand of hookah, if there's damage to your hookah, the cleanliness of it, and the hoses. Also, let me know how you pack your bowl, what kind of tobacco and coal you use, if there's any damage to your bowl, and all that good stuff. I'm sure we'll have you blowin clouds soon.

Yea, leaks can be a major factor as well. Usually though, cleanliness doesn't affect the amount of smoke - just the quality of it..

edit: lol.. unless you have a bunch of gunk in a hose port or something..

I use 33mm ql 3 kings coals
I smoke El Nakhla and Al Amir as they came with the hookah
30" KM hookah
3 hose
Hookah 2 weeks old
stock bowl that comes with the hookah

I have been pluging the one hole and just using the two holes.

I have checked the hose to base for leaks and did not find any. I will put it all together and see if I can find any air leaks.

Thanks for any help.

Just put everything together like you're about to smoke it, except don't put a bowl on. Then put your finger over the top and suck through the hose. You shouldn't get any air.

Also, Nakhla can take a LOT of heat. Start with 2 coals around the edge and get it to where the smoke is medium thick. Then add another coal and move one to make all three a triangle on the edges. Should get you solid smoke.

Nakhla is a lot drier than other tobaccos so I find it needs more heat...

i don't think nakhla needs more heat.
more heat+drier tobacco=burning tobacco
but for more smoke, you need to find a good amount of heat, not too much, not too little.

A lot of times, this depends upon which brand shisha you're using. Some shisha's will only give you light or medium smoke (ie. Al-Amir and Al Fakher). While others will give you huge thick clouds of smoke like Starbuzz. Also, I usually play around with the windcover to apply more heat. This can increase the thickness of the smoke very efficiently. You have to be careful though, because if you leave on the wind cover for too long, it can burn the shisha.

Also, maybe you just might need to add more coal. Depending upon what size bowl you have will determine how many pieces of coals you need to get thick smoke. Most small bowls only require one 30mm quick light coal. While others require two, or even the bigger 40mm quick light coal. If you use Natural coals (ie. Exotica) then you're gonna have to play around with the size of the pieces that you cut and find out what works best.

Hey BigGuy,

I can't remember if I already told you this, but def check out Sambooka's, How to Set Up a Hookah Tutorial on YouTube. Here's the link.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=k_BCJ1xOQTE

Check that out and set up your hookah. I also was wondering how you plug the other two valves on your hookah. Do KM's use ball bearings, or do you have to get a rubber stopper for the valves? Make sure the valves are also closed air tight. Also do you use a grommet with your bowl? A grommet is the little elastic plastic piece that goes on the top of the hookah and helps ensure that there is a nice tight seal between the top of the hookah stem and the bowl. The same goes with the grommet that attaches the hookah stem to the base. I think everyone else covered the tips about brand/quality/moistness of the tobacco and coal. One more thing about the coal is that you wanna make sure that it's red hot, and has no black spots. This could be a factor as well. Whenever I use quick lights, I still light them on a gas/electric stove to make sure of that. Obviously since they're quick lights, you can use a lighter, but just make sure they're red before you put them on the foil. If you smoke and have access to a gas/electric stove, I would advise you to use natural coal because I think they provide better heat, and burn less slowly that quick lights. I prefer Exotica Natural Coals by the way, and you can check out Sambooka's review on those too. Here's the link.

I hope I helped you out. Enjoy your smoke sessions, and as always if you have questions, just post, and everyone here will be glad to help out. Take it easy.

about the coals,, i dont think 33mm 3kings is that good, if you can get the 40mm 3k would be better,
try getting another brand of tobacco such as al fakher or starbuzz,
a 1 hose hookah would give better smoke,

it all matters the way you prepare the bowl, and how much water you put,
when you prepare your bowl, make sure of you dont let the tobacco touch the foil, also make sure you keep your tobacco in an air tight container, so it will be fresh,
make small holes on the foil, what i do is, i make the holes to cover the coal, then make 1 hole in each side where the coal wont be, and i place the coal, in the middle.. but then if you are using natural then you should make the hoses all around the bowl.

also make sure to use a wind cover, it will bost your smoke
