idk man. Have you had good smokes with the tobacco before or have you never really tasted it?

Try drinking water while you're smoking. It's a small tip but if your mouth is dry (and smoke dries it out) it is harder for your tongue to taste stuff.

And now that I've re-read your post, a year is pretty old especially if it isn't stored in an airtight container. Most flavors can get dry within 6 months or so. And dry shisha makes for harsh smoke and little flavor. There are ways to rewet it, but I'm not exactly sure. Search the forums if you're interested.

Your best bet would be to just buy some new tobacco though.

How are your sessions poor? Is it just the flavor? some flavors are very unstable and can go bad resulting in a musty or just plain rotten tasting smoke. It usually takes a very long time but it is possible especially if stored in less than ideal conditions.

hmm yeah the sessions have always been poor apart from a full mint session.

the flavour im smoking is al fakher, the mint flavour has been kept in a biscuit tin but the apple has dried out kinda, mint ones about 6+months old and i think that one smokes ok but when mixed with apple im getting crap smokes

i just got a new hookah so tried it out with apple mint and it didnt smoke well with no flavour and a nasty taste sometimes.

will try with just mint, the mints still nice and juicy but the juice has kinda sank to the bottom so theres some juicy flavour and some dry.

will report back once i try the mint on its own

I would at least mix in the juice back with the tobacco before you smoke it again.

mix it all in. sometimes ive found all the juice goes all to the bottom and you get all dry bits at the top. mix it up and then try

How are you packing your bowls and how much charcoal are you using? If all your sessions are bad and harsh it sounds like a heat management problem.

I'd say just get yourself some new shisha. Even if its just a 50g box of something to hold yourself over for awhile. Or attempt to revitalize it in some way..sometimes you get good results

A biscuit tin is not a good way to store moassel. I always use zip locks. Also, i've smoked stuff that was over 10 years old and had great sessions so age is rarely an issue unless you don't store stuff properly. If it does dry out mix in some melomix or a bit of glycerin and everything turns out fine if you pack your bowl well and manage your coals properly.

I've found that shisha sort of "changes" in flavor if it is kept in a hot environment for a while. I wouldn't say that it goes bad though, because I've smoked with tobacco that is probably a year old and it was completely fine.
