Default Electric Hot Plate

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of purchasing an electric hot plate to be able to heat my coals on. I have a gas stove at the moment and to say it takes longer is an understatement. Does this look like it would work?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ELECTRIC-STEEL...item2c5346c8fa

Thanks

I used to have a hot plate for natural coals; it really didn't seem to be too different from my stove, haha! I mean, unless they're takin' hours, I'd rather spend the money on shisha haha.

I just bought a single coil burner today from walgreens for $10. I'm sure you have a walgreens no more than 10 minutes from your house. That would be my recommendation.

I've never bothered with electric burners. Be it the gas stovetop in my kitchen or my gas camp stove, my coals are ready in four minutes.

I really doubt that, since he lives in the UK.

Try finding an electric griller with an electric resistance. Like this one:

My gas stove works a hell of a lot faster then an electric burner in my experience. I set the coals up slightly slanted on the burner head and just rotate them a couple of times to all sides red. Done by the time my bowl is loaded and the hookah is setup.

Walgreen's has been out of stock of the Single Coil Burner's in Central Florida for a MONTH! I had to settle for a hot plate from Walmart, $20.00, but it works pretty well. 5 minutes at most.

Enough with the walgreens/walmart/wal(store), he lives in the UK. I tried keyword shopping on google.co.uk but it was less than conclusive.
Sorry :/

a friend of mine has a stove w/hot plates like that and it takes FOREVER to light a natural, coil burners are ALOT quicker imo, i have a small single coil burner just for lighting naturals or even QLs & i dont hav any complaints w/it plus it's portable

I have a hot plate like the one you are looking at. It works, but it is slow when compared to a coil style burner. If that is all you can get, try pointing a fan on the lowest setting at the coals after about five minutes of heat.. It helps.

With the heat set to 'high', I get natural coals lit up in about 10-15 minutes, depending on the brand of coal. CH Nats light the quickest for me.

Haha don't worry about the Walgreens comments, it's cool. I used to live in Virginia before we moved to the UK and we had a huge Walmart/Sam's Club there. But then I went to Florida 2 years ago and went into a Walgreens for the first time. Gotta say Walgreens ROCKS Probably sounds hilarious because they must be so common in the US but that store had everything in it. My girlfriend at the time bought some migraine tablets from there and she swore by em!
Anyway, crazy Brit rant over haha..
My gas stove is set up in such a way that I have to put some gauze above the flame to light my coals. There's nothing to rest the coals on other than the gauze and small wood blocks I rest it on. Otherwise, my stove would be ruined by the coal. It takes over 30 mins sometimes to get a decent light from a coal using this method so 15 mins would be a breeze.
I even bought a mini-blowtorch off ebay to try and save some gas money. You guys should have seen me with this thing, when I unboxed the torch it was so tiny. It took me over 50 mins to light 2 coals - haha! I just know that I'll be looking back on that in a few years laughing my head off.

Thanks guys
